I LOVE MY JOB (S)

Today has been one of the busiest days I have had in a long time. Lots of kitties to care for, baking to finish and deliveries to Smiths Falls tonight. My day started at 9 and ended at 9. Tomorrow should be pretty much the same minus the deliveries.

My day started out with visiting Puff who on seeing me walk in the door immediately fell over on the floor with delight. He then proceeded to climb up my pant-leg to quicken up the breakfast and then ignored me the rest of my visit. OK!
Then off to see Chase & Buddy. This is Buddy in the photo looking out at the squirrels that surround his beautiful log home. These two are adorable and do the figure 8 when I arrive. They are almost identical except for their size and Buddy is the outgoing one of the two. Chase does whatever his brother does. So cute!

Next stop was Ando & Evee. Ando is so big that when he head-butts me he almost knocks me over. Evee is the softest most delicate little girl and she just looks at you with her big, gold eyes and listens to you talk to her. Then she blinks as if to answer you. Have you ever seen a cat do that. It is so precious. Ando & Evee's favorite thing to do is play with rope, on the floor, in the sunlight, with me.

Next off to meet new clients out in the country area. OK, I think this may have been the biggest cat I've ever seen. I'll save more on this for later.

Back home to finish my doggy biscuits and package up the order for delivery to Smiths Falls Pet Valu store. Finished this in time to walk Kane and start my rounds again for dinner.

WHEW!

Recycling Rain-boots...they served me well.

So there is a tear in your rain-boot and you think you will never find a pair that felt so comfy and served you so well on the many rainy days while out walking the dog. That's probably true because I have already bought another pair and I don't like them as much. These boots are staying and will decorate the tree area where I feed the squirrels every morning. It's a 'not so pretty' area of the yard that could use some colour so there you go....live on faithful boots.

Rae-Rae's Drama & Cat-tip-for-the-day =^..^= Diet tip

Rae-Rae: "Today was CATASTROPHIC! I was kidnapped from my cubby and forced into a box that smelled funny and then driven to a horrible place where these strange, cold hands poked and squeezed me until I could barely breath. I won't even tell you what he did to my privates. Then back in that box like a prisoner. I'll never recover from this." *holds her paw to her forehead*

Deb: "Rae-Rae went to the Vet today. She hung upside down in her crate and tried to chew her way out but thankfully we are only 5 minutes from the vet's office so she was not successful. Once in the examination room, she was examined very gently and her temperature was taken. By the end of it, she was lying on her back having a tummy rub and purring so loud you could have heard her in the parking-lot. She is completely shameless and is now in love with her vet."

"Now who are you going to believe?"

Cat-tip For The Day - Diet tip.

While at the vet's office I had a chance to speak to the vet about feeding cats who are in need of losing weight. I told him I had just read an article on this subject and it was recommended to feed soft food only, many times throughout the day and eliminate dry food altogether. I waited for the *gasp* when I heard him say, "That's correct. I agree 100%." He said that he owns male cats and he feeds them soft food twice daily and only a tiny bit of dry. He said that the dry food is very high in calories compared to soft and that it is sprayed with oils that contain many calories. I told him I feed mine Performatrin & Eagle Pack brands and he said both were excellent for a strictly soft food diet. So, my tubby tabby will be off dry and be fed more soft for awhile to see if the results are good. I'll keep you posted.

My Mother - Edna Elizabeth Fox/Wilson

This was my mother in her 20's. She is standing on the road in front of the homestead in Manotick, Ontario Canada. It's not hard to see where I got my love for cats. Her family were farmers and there were many kitties born in the barn (we know better now).
My mom was the most capable woman I ever knew. No matter what she turned her hand to, it turned out perfect. She loved to cook and as a young teenager, she moved to the city to put herself through school by cooking for a wealthy family. We benefited from that years later because she was the best cook I ever knew. She worked full-time when I was growing up and I remember as a young girl going to meet her at the bus-stop so I could walk home with her and tell her all about my day. She was a great listener, she had a quirky sense of humour and she was very proud of her kids. She was a rather shy person and very private in her way but she also loved a good get-together and I can still hear her contagious laughter. She was my mom, my friend, my rock. My mother died of cancer 12 years ago. It is a loss that settled inside of me and I live my life feeling her presence and comfort every day. I miss her and am very proud to have been her daughter.

Not such 'scaredy-cats' anymore. Cat-tip-for-the-day =^..^= How to tell if your cat is fat

Mother's Day is on my mind so I am posting a pic of my mother's favorite flower, the daisy. I always have them in the house now. She used to say that you could not help yourself but to smile when you looked at them. I say....she's right. Thinking of her makes me smile, too.
Joe & Rae-Rae are out from under the bed and struttin' their stuff today. That didn't take long. There has been some hissing and snarling but no blood-shed. I really didn't expect there would be but I do have one 'nasty' senior who is predictably unpredictable. Joe & Rae-Rae will continue to eat separately from the others and they have their own bathroom area. I believe in baby-steps so I won't get ahead of myself. They sure are two cuties. I already have fallen for them. This is all I could get of Joe. He's a mover.
Isn't she a pretty little girl. But wait, she's a calico.....TROUBLE COMIN'.

If your cat is really fat you would have to be blind not to notice it.

The ideal cat is well proportioned and agile. When viewed from above a waist should be easily defined beneath the ribs. The abdomen should be firmly tucked-up. An obese cat has heavy deposits of fat over its back, neck, rib-cage and sometimes even on its legs. The abdomen is rounded and notable pendulous so that it nearly touches the ground.
A cat's weight gain can creep up on you unawares. You should catch the fat before it really takes hold by making regular fat-assessment test. Weigh your cat by standing on the scale holding your cat and then weigh yourself alone. Subtract the difference. Ask you vet what the proper weight should be for your type of cat.

It is important not to let your cat become obese for health reasons, obviously. They depend on us to keep them healthy and happy.

Thankful Thursday + Cat-tip-for-the-day =^..^= introducing new cats slowly

I am very thankful for my 2 'small businesses' 'cause I have lots of fun with both of them.

Cat-tip - we are integrating my daughter's cats to our cats for the summer. I believe in 'baby steps' although some people might say to just drop them in the middle and let them work it out. I would rather let them come out of a safe and quiet room when they are good and ready. This seems to be the preferred solution here and I will keep you posted as to how the 'chowder' of cats work it out. This is day 3 and so far the two new cats like to stay put where they are safe, warm & well-fed and they will venture out soon, I am sure. The young calico is more curious and daring but poor little Joey who is around 5 years is not putting one paw out the door yet. It is interesting to see how they figure this out.
