updates

Well, Annie had to say good-bye to Nigel. He left for his new home last night. I spent some extra time with 'mom' to see how she was handling having only 2 kittens with her. I wondered if she would even care. She is fine and so are the remaining two kittens. I'm sure they notice him gone but their motto is "love life" and off they go again after that fuzzy mouse. I will be keeping tabs on Nigel because I will be his cat-sitter when his owner needs care for him. I already can't wait to see him again.

Ed is still struggling with walking but doing slightly better. We remain hopeful but also we are realistic when it comes to these types of injuries. He has made better progress with using the litter-box and that was my biggest concern right now. I know that if the leg is to heal it will take time  but my concern was damage to the kidneys and bowel.

This injury was due to Ed jumping up on our couch and falling backwards, landing on his left side. It was only a foot and a half but he hit hard and has done some damage to the left hip and knee. Xrays showed that nothing was broken but he cannot walk on his own. He is 22 years old but I'm not exaggerating when I say he is a very fit old cat. It was only last week that he was chasing a squirrel in our yard and dang-near got it. Not bad for a geriatric. I only hope that he can walk again as I expect his running days are over.

hugs, Deb

  2. Slow but sure wins the race, Ed...you take care of your furry self and heal up soon.

Deb, is there an anti-inflammatory or mild painkiller Ed could tolerate, or is time the best remedy?

  3. oh poor Ed. I'm sorry to hear about his accident. And I just read the other post, I can only imagine how emotional that must be, but so wonderful that you are willing and able to help him. I think that is why I spend so much time in the cat blogosphere, to remind myself there are people who are willing to go the extra mile for their kitties.

and 22yrs, that's just so heartwarming to hear :)

As for the mom missing the babies, usually by the time kittens are ready to go off and be adopted the moms are so ready for them to go. Occasionally there are moms that are really bonded with the kits, but it usually happens when the moms are really young or there is only one kitten.

  4. Poor Ed. :-( Wow...22 years old. I hope my oldest (and favorite, shhh!) kitty, Zippo lives that long. He's 12-1/2 right now and is just starting to show signs of old age - mainly struggling to jump onto beds or the kitchen counter. Otherwise, he's very healthy.

    The kittens are SO cute!

  6. Wow, I don't think I've known of a cat that's lived to be 22.....that says a lot for the owner.

    Hoping he does well!
