The loaf cake...plain and simple

I love this little house under our tree. You can see the little decorated tree inside.

Audrey loves to sit under the tree amidst the twinkling lights. She feels like a giant when she's really just a wee kitty. Bet they are sitting around in there having
Tea & treats and watching movies. Don't you just love Christmas.

My favorite Christmas candy is the gum-drop. My mom always had a big Christmas bowl filled with them and I loved every color and flavor.  She would also make a gum-drop cake. Now, not everyone took a fancy to this festive loaf but there was no arguing that it was the cutest little loaf-cake you ever did see. I wish I had the recipe but somehow it has been lost.  I noticed there are lots of recipes for this cake on the internet. So, I have another loaf cake recipe that I want to share.
My mom called this 'the loaf cake'...plain and simple.
1/4 cup of butter
1 cup of white sugar
2 eggs
2 cups of flour
1 cup of sour milk (add a 1/2 tsp. of vinegar to milk)
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
Mix all the above ingredients together.

In a separate bowl mix together 1 tsp. cinnamon and 3 tbsp. brown sugar.

Put half of the cake ingredients in pan then a layer of cinnamon and brown sugar.
Then add half the ingredients and a layer of cinnamon and brown sugar on top.

Cook 1 hour at 350 degrees.
Thanks for all your comments about Audrey and Annie. I have decided no matter what they tell me at the vet clinic tomorrow we will work it out that they stay here.   There is always an answer.

hugs, Deb

  1. They are so lucky to have you!
Love the miniature house under your tree.
Enjoy the season, although it is hard with a cat in heat (been there, done that). After a few days, I decided I really didn't want kittens! LOL

  4. I am overjoyed for the kitties! And relieved to know that they will not have to suffer the loss of each other. Doing the right thing may not always be easy, but it IS the right thing. But you already know that many times over.

The beautiful little house reminds me of a house you once showed us from your neighborhood. The one that had had a fire and was lovingly restored? Well, a model of that house would make a lovely companion for your little house infer the tree.
    God bless you.
