Vegie Pie & my 'hot' dog

A recipe for you meat-less mealtime lovers.
This looks like meat but it's Vegie ground round.
One for dinner and one for the freezer.

While I cooked, Audrey stopped to smell the geranium.

This vegie pie (a meal in itself) is very good but be sure to have some time set aside to make it. I did the crust from scratch so that adds a little extra time but it was worth it.
The retired-guy loves his meat but he raved about this pie.
Then he mentioned something about men shouldn't eat soy products because there is too much estrogen in them. I think he was worried he may never see meat again.

Here's the recipe...
Pre-cook your bottom pie crust.
Saute 1 med.onion, 1/2 cup of sliced mushrooms and 1 pkg. of Yves Vegie Ground Round.
in frying pan.
Chop 2 large carrots, 2 med. potatoes & 2 sticks of celery. Pre-cook using a large pot.
Add the vegie mixture.
Add 1/2 cup each of frozen corn and peas.
Add 1 cup of tomato sauce.
1/4 cup of sugar
As much basil, oregano & cumin as desired.
(I doubled this recipe and put 1/2 teaspoon of each)
salt and pepper to taste
1/2 tsp. soya sauce
1/2 cup water
Bring this to a slow boil
Add 1/4 teaspoon of cornstarch
This should be a stew consistency
Pour this into a pre-cooked pie shell
Put top layer of pie-crust over this  making a hole in the center of the dough.
Cook 350 degrees for 50 minutes.

I had the luck of finding 3 cats in windows today on my leisurely walk with Kane.
I photographed this guy once before but today he actually posed for me.

All our walks are very slow and methodical now. We must stop for every shrub, tree & street post. He has to leave his lovely scent on each and every one. He likes to graze on the grass and look behind every rock. He likes to smell the air. Sometimes he just stands there and lets the wind blow through his hair like Fabio. I have to wait.
When my dog passes a mirror, this is what he sees.

Yes folks. My dog thinks he is this hot. Always has, always will. Actually, I think my dog is better looking than Fabio but I won't tell him that. I have to live with him

  3. I've never precooked the bottom pastry. I can see it would speed up the final process. I'm pinning this and will give it a try. ~ Maureen

  5. I read the oestrogen bit with interest, is this really so, if it is I'm off to get a cart load of it as mine is fading fast.
As we age it depletes and I could do with a boost. lol
