My heart over-flows.

Our Lily & Sierra
Our Audrey & Annie

How I wish I could have you all for tea and a huge slice of cake. We are so thankful for all your support and concern over the theft of our cat, Sierra.
So many of you commented that you did not believe this woman's story about losing her cat 4 months ago and taking our Sierra off our property because she looked like her lost cat. I am still unsure of her story, but I do know that if she had not seen the poster that had gone viral stating that the police were looking for her car, we would not have Sierra today. We most likely would never have seen her again.   She had our cat for 25 hours and most likely knew within minutes of grabbing her from our porch that she was not her cat. She still kept her though. Then she saw the plea on line that included details of her car and it scared her enough that she called us. That's what we think really happened but cannot prove it. She just kept saying, "I'm sorry, I really thought she was my cat."

I need to put this behind us now and get on with things but we have learned a lot from this nightmare. It is a shame that we cannot allow a cat, that we trusted for ten years, to have her time on her favorite bench on our porch but that is the cost of this terrible experience. We were lucky but it has changed everything. Our postman says he will miss her.

I do  know for sure that prayers are answered.

hugs, Deb

  1. I do know for sure that prayers are answered. ~ Yes they are. God cares for all of His creatures.

I am so glad this had a happy ending, with you having dear Sierra back home.

  2. Give it time, for all the emotions to settle, and you'll find a way to allow Sierra some porchtime somehow. I tend to be really reactive with anything to do with my kitties, but often a solution presents itself after awhile. My guess is that woman won't come back because the cops were looking for her, plus the online community was up in arms too. Sending you all loving vibes during this turbulent time.

  3. Amen, God certainly answers prayers, Deb. I agree with the comment above: give it a little time and then if you're still not happy leaving Sierra outside alone, why not spend fifteen minutes out there with her every day? I do this with my three cats every day and I can see they appreciate this. (I certainly enjoy the quiet time of doing nothing except watch my cats!) xx

  4. I am guessing that it is not possible to screen your porch for her.
    So happy she is home.

  6. Every time I think of your losing Sierra and being so frantic to find her, I want to cry.
I hugged my Sadie extra close last night and this morn.
Shame on that woman but glad she got scared enough to give her back.

  7. This happened to me 11 years ago when my cat Bujang was just one year old. He was outside my open front door with iis harness and leash and a woman came to take him. I yelled at her from inside my house and she said she thought my cat was her lost kitty. Now I am with him when he is on leash outside all the time. I usually take him for a walk on a leash as well. We are very glad Sierra is safe.

  8. Will Sierra be allowed outside when someone is there to watch her? I'd be scared to do even that, but I think under your or the Retired Guy's supervision, she'd be safe. In any case, she is home and whatever you decide, she will be all right.

  9. When the time comes that you're feeling up to it, just spend time out there on the porch with her.

  10. Perhaps if you are around when the postman is expected you can sit out on the porch with Sierra some days..??? You both might enjoy it and Sierra will get a visit with her favorite postman... Hugs! deb

You know even if the lady thought Sierra was hers, she could have knocked on the door to talk to you instead of just swiping the cat off the porch...sigh communication people......!

    1. We will put time aside to supervise her on the porch from now on. She doesn't require a lot of time outside and will appreciate even 15 minutes sitting out with us. Thanks for your comment.

  11. We are so happy Sierra is home. Perhaps she can have some occasional attended time on the porch.

  12. I'm glad your Sierra is back home again! It seems like a miracle. I can't imagine someone who would swipe a cat from private property like that without a question. I'm so glad there is a happy ending!

  13. God does answer prayer! Sierra must have been so confused! Now she has some changes to endure but she will be safe! Big hugs to you and Sierra! I would be frantic if something happened to Charlie like that!

  14. Oh, Deb. I am so sorry to hear of this ordeal and SO GLAD your Sierra is home. I never cease to be amazed by some of the things people can do... it is just beyond imagining that someone would TAKE someone else's loved pet. Things do change in the blink of an eye. blessings ~ tanna

  15. I am so happy for you! Yep...that story is questionable at best. I never let mine go outside without me and then only for about 15 minutes. I have to worry about hawks here...not that chubby Miss Isabella is even lift-able! lol Enjoy your sweet baby!...hugs...Debbie

  16. Deb, I've had this on my mind since reading yesterday's post, I keep imagining how you must have felt. If I call mine and they don't come immediately I panic so I know how you felt. Shame Sierra can't go out on the porch any more but better safe than sorry.
Hugs to you and all the cats

    1. Thanks Briony. I've decided that we will schedule a bit of time to sit with her on the porch for the rest of the summer. She doesn't need more than 15 minutes a couple of times a day. She would be happy with that.

  17. After seeing this post I immediately went to your last one to read the story. I am so glad Sierra is home where she belongs. Whew.

  18. You'll need time to be able to put this behind you, Deb. It forces you to rethink everything you believed about people, your home and your safety.
You can certainly find comfort in knowing you have observant neighbors who care. Give Sierra an estra big hug from all of us.

  20. So sorry you, your family & Sierra had to go through such an awful experience. I don't believe any honest person would ever just grab the cat & run without talking to the homeowner to determine if it really was their "missing cat". I think that woman only returned Sierra because there was a witness & she saw her car had been identified. Thank goodness Sierra is home again thanks to all your efforts to get her back. I don't blame Sierra for being so upset & I'm sure all her extra baths was her way of getting rid of any smell that lingered from that crazy woman snatching her. It's good that Sierra will still get her outdoor time - but from now on Sierra will be enjoying the red bench in the company of her very own kitty security guard "Mom Deb" and you don't wanna mess with her cats!

  21. I was mentioning to somebody yesterday how Sierra and the postman were buddies. I'm glad you'll be able to sit out there with her sometimes. It's still incredible to be that she was just plucked off your porch like that. Thank God the poster went viral!

  22. I still can't believe what an awful experience this was and what a terrible person this was. You're right, I think -- she only came back because the details were a dead giveaway. I'm sorry Sierra can't have her regular porch spot, but I do know she's safe with you -- and I have a feeling you'll find a way to have porch time together.

  23. Hmm, why didn't the woman knock on your door and enquire about 'her' cat? I think it would be hard to mistake a beautiful cat like Sierra with another so I don't think her story stacks up. Thank God your neighbour saw it all happen otherwise I dread to think! So glad she's back in your arms where she belongs. Xxx

  24. It's hard to believe someone would steal an ordinary tabby cat! Goes to show people will steal anything. Your probably right, she got scared, bet she was waiting for the reward notice to collect and "find" your cat. Poor Sierra though. Maybe you can build her a locking screened porch cage with cool places to sit and stretch and wait for her mailman friend.

  25. Oh my, how could she do that. Seriously, she knew it wasn't her cat. Keep her inside now .. maybe you could put up some sort of camera out on the porch area .. just in case.

  26. I must have missed yesterday's post, but I've read it now and all I can say is, "Thank God that you have Sierra back!" What an ordeal! I would have a hard time believing that woman as I can't imagine not knowing my own cat.
I'm sorry you had to go through all this! Our furbabies are part of our family and I can't imagine one being taken. We have the opposite problem here. People seem to know how much we love kitties and dump their unwanted ones off here. We have a new kitten that arrived at our back door the other day. It was too small to have traveled on it's own very far and our neighbors to the north don't have cats and the house to the south is vacant. So we're pretty certain it was a castoff. I can't believe people who do such things. How do they expect one that young to survive? I guess they don't care. Sad.
I'm so happy Sierra is doing well even though I know she will miss her porch time.
    Take care!

  27. I'm glad your Sierra will get some supervised porch time.
Seeing your kitties all cozy and cuddled down in these photos--somehow my world seems a bit better, too.
    Gentle hugs to them all.

  28. I guess I missed the post about Sierra being missing also. So glad it turned out the way it did and you have her back safe and sound. I had to go back and read the last few posts. Love the picture of Sierra and Retired Guy.

  29. Deb dear, I'm sure things will soon be better both for you and for Sierra. Perhaps she can 'visit' on the porch with you when the postman is due. Are the police planning to check out those women - seems something more should be done if they truly are 'catnappers' !!

I'm thinking of you and hoping life will get back to normal very soon.
