As Easter draws near

I want to say our snow is over with but I know better. Here in Ontario it's nothing to get a big storm in April so we will just stay quiet, cross our fingers and hope we have seen the tail end of it.

It's been cold but sunny this last week and we still have a pile of snow to get rid of before Easter. Last year we started the Easter Egg Hunt in the Wood-lot tradition and it was a beautiful, sunny, warm day then. This year might be a wee bit different. I have visions of poor old Peter Rabbit hopping around with his collar pulled up around his neck, unlaced snow-boots just a flyin' leaving his tracks behind for the kids to follow. He'll probably wear a toque and woolly mittens. And hiding all those eggs in the snow might be tricky. "Good luck, Peter."

But no matter what we will have fun. :) There are five grandittles just waiting to start the hunt.

There's lots of baking going on at the mouse-house.

Cupcakes are on the to-do list. They'll be fun to decorate.

The girls are waiting on the sun-puddles.

What's happening at the feeders?
The birds are busy gathering nesting materials and making decisions just where to place it. I hope we have all seven of our houses filled with babies this spring. Wow...that would be fabulous!
Our red-winged blackbirds have returned along with the robins. Downies, Mourning Doves and Chickadees are plentiful. The bluejays and crows are flying over our house regularly with filled beaks and our Pileated Woodpecker is a regular here now.

I'm filling feeders at the wood-lot and staying out of their way so they can feel safe here. We have some very shy birds here. :)

You can see how much snow we still have. Today they call for rain and that's exactly what we need to get rid of it.

I hope your Easter preparations are going well.

Be kind,
 Deb

  3. We are getting heavy rains today, and it's supposed to be above 50 degrees F for baseball's opening day this Thursday. If it snows again, we will all laugh at how quaint, since it won't last much longer. Inwardly, we'll grit our teeth...

  4. It is always exciting to see a post from you. All this darn snow everywhere! We've had the coldest March on record...even this morning it's cold, windy, thick grey clouds, and sprinkling rain. Your little Easter tree is so pretty. I'm sure Peter Rabbit is looking forward to visiting your place, even in the snow. There may be snow outside, but inside, your home looks soft, warm, and cozy. Bet it smells wonderful too with all that baking. I can't look at your blog without looking at the picture of the one week old kittens in the side bar...and that little precious Audrey holding her head up. It's adorable! Happy Easter!

  5. Hi Deb...
Sure hope your snow melts, so Peter can continue the tradition.
No snow here, but we sure need the rain here today.
Working on my dining table...we are having Easter dinner on Friday....
I saw a big fat Robin last evening...but so dry here...he was confused!
Have a wonderful weekend with your family...
    Cheers!

  6. Looks like a fun Easter even if there is snow. I've got the treats for the Grands baskets and we bought a ham today for Easter dinner. I love this time of year!

  9. I doubt we're through with snowfalls yet. I did see the first munk running about in Major's Hill Park on Sunday. Has Simon showed himself yet?

    Happy Easter!

  11. Deb, there was snow here whilst we were away - it's still cold and dull but should warm up again soon. Not much happening with the azaleas - always a spring/Easter sign here - but I see the dogwoods are starting to bud.

Coming home and seeing no garden birds - our feeders left empty for almost 3 weeks - was sad. BUT, those little cuties didn't take long to come back once Bob was out there filling them up again - and I scattered seed on the front porch which brought back the wrens and chickadees almost immediately!

Oops, sun is shining now, lovely, I need to get out and take a walk now that I'm almost over the bug I came back with. Hope you don't get more snow - you had more than your share this winter I think!

    Kitties look happy.
    Love and hugs - Mary

  12. It's the same in southern Alberta: continued snow. We do have intermittent pleasant, sunny days, then the snow falls again. It's a continual cycle this year.
