For John...I watched the green heron walk into the wood-lot and was quite sure
that it was not hurt. I have since looked for him there but no sign. I find it odd that he was in the sumac but they do hang out in trees, I am told.
They nest in trees, too.
Well, here I am again getting way behind in my posts. It's obvious that I found this to be one of the busiest summers ever. And here it is September and today the sun is setting at 7pm.
I have a new family member to introduce to everyone.
Meet our little Cora.
Lady Cora
Cora (known as Belle at Bee Meadow Farm) has come home to be a little sister to Annie and Wilson.
Well...that's what the plan was. Our Wilson has had quite the time of it trying to figure out just what the purpose of this kitten is and what his role is with her.
Is she a toy? nope
His girlfriend. NO!
His BFF (since Annie can take her or leave her, the latter preferably.)
His baby?
Well, baby it is. He is actually acting like a mother cat with Cora: calling (with a new voice by the way), washing, sleeping and eating with her and protecting her from Annie's predictable hisses.
As my friend from Henny Penny Lane would say..."he's a mess." lol
But he's in love and that's all that matters.
Annie will take a bit more time to, at the most, tolerate her.
Fall is showing up at Fox Grove inside and out.
Although we still have work on the loft to do, the work has been taken outside to get the deck on before winter.
And we had 'the boys' in the family rolling up their sleeves and measuring, cutting and drilling (and apparently our three year old grandson was raking but I'm not sure what that was all about :-)
until a good portion of the deck was on. More to come.
My garden has been put to bed but I still visit Tao the tree-frog each day in his birdhouse since he kept me company all through the hot summer days.
I'd say it is soon time for him to find a warm and appropriate place for the winter. I do hope he returns again in the spring as he has been with us for a few years now. Much like Simon the chip was.
I've been busy with my cat-sitting service all summer but will save a few of my fabulous felines to show you for another post.
Be well,
Deb

Adult male cats can make the best nurturers.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty new kitten. Gail
Cora is a cutie pie!
ReplyDeleteCora is absolutely gorgeous! How sweet that Wilson is taking care of her. Cats do have special ways of relating with one another. I hope Annie settles down with Cora. Maybe she will realize that Cora will keep Wilson out of her way.
ReplyDeleteIt is incredible that you have three generations working on the house! I can't wait to see the progress inside and out.
Take care Deb and love those sweet cats for me!
Cora is a beauty! I have lately felt the pull to adopt a kitten or two--our youngest cats, the three boys, came to us in 2012. But---we are still feeding and caring for quite a group--6 who have house privileges and the two 'barn cats' who patrol the yard and have living quarters on the back porch.
ReplyDeleteIts looking like more of your new house will be usable this winter.
Cora is darling! Look at those eyes, that face! She looks like a Maine Coon, kinda like my Tilly McTillster, with an M on her forehead.
ReplyDeleteI also have 3 kitties and would love another but am afraid to be considered a "cat hoarder"! lol. But, you never know what the future will bring.
ALL looking good Deb...
ReplyDeleteBut to~day..the 13th.. on my main calendar..
There's one word..someones birthday, and
that someone was a very special pussy~cat,
who's name began with...'A'...!
Bless! Still think of her, and look through
ALL her photos in my pussy~cat folder..! :)
What a sweet new member of your family and her name is pretty too.
ReplyDeleteOH MY, Lady Cora is such a beautiful girl, love those thumbs & I think she's going to be a big cat. Your kitties are so lucky (as you are) to be in this family. Glad to see that all things are progressing at Fox Grove as they should be.
ReplyDeleteThat little Cora is adorable. She is so cute! I can just picture Wilson taking over as mother cat. That's so sweet. Deb, I thought about you this morning and wondered if I had missed a post. So glad to see one. Your little grandson raking with that long handled rake made me laugh, wondering how many times grandpa got bumped in the head. Reminded me of our three grandsons always wanting to chop down trees when they were here. Looks like you have a hard working crew there. You have such a good looking family. Your little 'fall' cupboard sure is pretty. Thank you for the mention. Made me smile this morning. Love, Henny
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet looking grey bundle of fur - Cora and Wilson must be such fun to watch together!
ReplyDeleteGlad things are moving along well at the house Deb, your guys are amazing and I bet you are busy keeping them well 'fed and watered.'
Tree-frog Tao is so cute and the lovely almost tropical looking greenery behind the birdhouse sets a perfect scene.
Have a fun weekend.
OH! A million smoochies on wee Cora's face, and how delightful that Wilson has taken her under his wing. I love the photo of the frog in the bird house!
ReplyDeleteCora is precious. Over the years we've had many cats in the house... (8 at one time) but 3 is the number that usually works out well. Annie will have her own space and Wilson will bond with Cora. Perfect!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweetie. It is funny that Wilson has adopted her. I would have thought that Annie would have wanted a baby to look after.
ReplyDeleteOh, that cute little Cora! She'll be a good addition to your family. Throughout my 50 years of living with cats (many cats!), I've found that the neutered males make the best Daddys/big brothers. They love taking care of and teaching the kittens. The females do not want to be bothered.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new baby!
I'd say for a three year old raking (or whatever that was!) is better than power tools!
ReplyDeleteCora is adorable and I love hearing how Simon has taken her on as his love project! That's incredibly sweet. Annie will come round. I love it!
Oh, Lady Cora is wonderful. She is so cute. And what a happy thing to happen for Wilson to have become her very special friend. I just loved hearing about that.
ReplyDeletexo to all,
Lily
ohhh i missed this post!
ReplyDeleteLady Cora is adorable! i see you're keeping with the grays; Wilson sounds so silly, will have to get pics of that!
can't wait to see the new section of the mouse house finished, a deck? that sounds awesome (wish i had a verandah) you'll be able to sit out there & watch the antics of all the critters that visit!
lovely post
thanx for sharing
Congratulations about a new family member! Cora is amazing! I hope Annie accepts her soon!
ReplyDeleteTry to play with them both at the same time and give them snack while they're together. And remember - Annie needs more attention right now. She can't feel rejected (so now, you need to spend more time with Annie) :)
And Autumn is beautiful. I can't wait rainy and foggy days :)
What a sweet looking grey bundle of fur, Cora and Wilson must be such fun to watch together!
ReplyDeleteSome cats purr when they’re happy, and you may hear it when they’re sleeping contentedly in a space. Learn more
Usually, this type of relaxed manner comes with the following attached to it:
The cat is on their back with the belly up
Their eyes are half-closed, or fully closed, maybe occasionally blinking at you
The tail is mostly still and not moving very much
Usually, this is something that cats who have been in situations where they don’t feel safe will develop. It’s basically their form of smiling, and if they are comfortable like that around you, then that’s a sign that they are happy, and you shouldn’t do anything to disturb them.
So, it oftentimes doesn’t mean much at all, other than they are just happy to be in your space.
