feeding an army & time to lighten up

I took two walks today with my dog and tonight my face is on fire from wind-burn. I didn't think it was too cold but that's because I'm Canadian and we are just like that. We are numb to it, I guess.

I dropped by to feed the ferals tonight and saw one I had never seen before. He was charcoal grey, a big guy and very feral. He had already been to the feeding spot and was on his way when I pulled in so he ran but stopped to watch. He was going to be first at the buffet. "Geez Louise, how many cats are out there?" Since the summer I can recognize 6 or 7 of them and I expect there are many more but when you actually see one that is unfamiliar you realize there are too many. A group of adult cats is called a clowder. When I arrive each night there is not a speck of food left from the visit before. I have been given lots of dry food from caring individuals to help with this colony so I am not stingy with the servings. They get a pile of food. I also give them soft food and hope that they reach it before it freezes. I spoke to the Ottawa Cat Rescue Network about this group of cats in hopes that maybe they can help trap some of them in the spring. They are up to their neck in cats right now too and I could tell that she is already a little over-whelmed with the numbers that need help. The winter months are tough for them and me, damn it. I worry about them while I sit in my warm house.

I'll lighten things up a bit......

I am doing some re-organizing since I now have another bedroom to use and I am once again in a purging mood. "Out with the old, in with the white." Did I say that?
I have a pile of picture frames that I need to donate or paint. hmmmm!  Before blogging I would have just sent them off to our local exchange but now I think I may paint them since I get so inspired by all you crafty people. I'll save some money and get creative.

I'll be caring for little Puff for awhile soon. He is that 'pretty boy' who looks so lovely in pink.

Taken last summer. Is he not scrumptious? I get to love him up and soon enjoy their beautiful garden.
Like Catherine at http://cornerofcatsmind.blogspot.com/ I thought you could use some colour. Check out her blog for a breath of fresh air.
Here's some colour from our home

 Have a great day!

  1. I know how you feel about the ferals. I worry and worry too. I used to love extreme weather, now I dread it. I certainly didn't know about the ee name thing. Thanks fur sharing the facts and the purrty colors!

  2. The poor ferals! So sad! I think you are such a special lady for feeding them. This is our 3rd day of being stuck inside...it's so icy out there and we in the south don't know how to get around in it. I'm staying home and safe.
