Lemeee tell you about this lemon poppy-seed bread. If I was to construct a 'last meal' for myself a slice of this heavenly delight would be part of that meal.
I don't have the recipe, so my apologies for that, as I have asked for it and was promptly denied. I pick up a couple of loaves every time I go by the General Store in Pakenham, Ont. It is THE BEST LEMON POPPY-SEED BREAD ON THE PLANET. They are real stingy with their recipes there and it's one of those "If I told you I'd have to kill you" kind of things. But, I still buy it and will someday try to make it myself. (and will probably fail miserably) but I'm no quitter.
I often have coffee in a tea-cup and this cake goes so well with it.
If anyone out there has a delicious recipe for this kind of loaf cake, please share.
Isn't it pretty with my blue and white china?
The magazine GRIT is one that the retired guy subscribes to. It is full of wonderful articles on raising your own food and hobby-farming. This month has interesting articles on bees and raising your own chickens. Lots of info on growing herbs, too. It is a good magazine to have just for all the valuable information on our food and the health of our planet. I checked...no recipe for lemon poppy-seed loaf. ;-b
Lily was getting a bath from Annie this morning.
They are developing a very close relationship now that Ed has passed on. Thank God for Annie. Lily needs that comfort at this time and I knew I could count on my 'little Peach'.

My mother used to make a mean poppy seed cake. I have not thought of it until I read this post. Lovely blue and white china. Such sweet kitties. So sorry about your loss.
ReplyDeleteVery good of Annie!
ReplyDeleteI will have to stop in there the next time I'm over in Pakenham. The cake's too tempting to pass up!
Such a heartwarming picture of the cats. I will look shortly but I think I have a recipe for this bread. Yours surely looks delicious. That's a gorgeous, warm photo and I love the tablerunner.
ReplyDeletep.s. the magazine sounds like a good one!
ReplyDeletePeople make the mistake of thinking that cats are aloof...but they are such sensitive little souls. Glad that Lily has a friend.
ReplyDeleteJane x
How lovely that your cats are such good friends.
ReplyDeleteYour kitties are precious! I do have a lemon bread recipe that I think is the best...it is actually Starbucks Lemon Loaf.....just add poppy seeds. I blogged about it here if you want to check it out http://musingsofavintagejunkie.blogspot.com/2013/06/strawberry-shortcakewith-twist.html
ReplyDeleteVisiting you from Anything Blue Friday!
Anything with lemon sets my heart into a glorious tizzy! Looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty china and the lemon poppy seed loaf looks wonderful on it! I'm a big fan of things made with lemon. I know that Taste of Home has good recipes and they are all tried and proven ones. You might look at their web site for one. Probably one of the most important things is fresh squeezed lemons. That always gives it the best flavor. I have three cats and love them all. Sorry about your recent loss. It's nice to see that your other cats are cozying up.
ReplyDeleteJust like true friends that are there when you need them! Love seeing the two kitties interact and I would love a slice of that cake please!
ReplyDeleteI emailed you a lemon recipe.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much.
DeleteI'm a lemon lover too! And love all sorts of seed cakes. I am a horrible cook/ baker but I'd sure give lemon poppy seed cage a go.
ReplyDeleteLittle Peach, you make us all teary
eyed. You've come through for Lily in her time of need. We always suspected you might be an angel.

I love how Annie has been comforting Lily. Did she groomed Lily or spent time with her while Mr Ed was still alive?
ReplyDeleteYes, a little but Ed and Lily were always together.
DeleteThat Annie has such a nurturing soul!
ReplyDeleteSweet Annie. I love Lily's face ♥
ReplyDeleteLove anything with lemon, so I know I'd like it. Lemon pound cake has always been a favorite, but don't usually eat it with poppy seeds. It certainly looks pretty on the blue and white.
ReplyDeleteDeb, that photo of your tea and treat... in your beautiful room... looks so warm and inviting. Makes me take a happy sigh. Sweet girls. blessings ~ tanna

Add the eggs, milk, oil, vanilla and lemon extract; mix until smooth, about 1 minute.
Pour batter evenly into the prepared pans.
3.Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 50 to 55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the centre of the loaves comes out clean.
