I think they are very capable of building a bond with a human; much like your dog will.
I only have to think of Annie. My dear, sweet, lovable Annie.
There is never a day goes by that I don't feel loved by this cat. Is it because I brought her home from a shelter, surrounded by her 2 day old kittens, choosing her, over a room full of needy, homeless cats? Maybe. I know from day one she was grateful as I saw it in her eyes.
Her babies were so young that all my attention went on her as I let her take care of the kittens.
I felt the bond between us grow stronger everyday. I suppose that is why she remains in our home along with her off-spring, Audrey. It just felt right.
She is only 4 years old now but has the soul of an ancient cat.
She is part of me and I belong to her.
Forever.
I'm joining http://viewingnaturewitheileen.blogspot.ca/ for Saturday's Critters.
hugs, Deb
Anyone who has a bond with their cat can answer that question. Not all cat human relaltionships are like that, but the ones who are your buddies, who follow you round the house and chirp out to you when you come home are. Miss Pops jumps off the bed and runs to greet me every day after work. She likes to come and see me thoughout the day, and when she pops through her cat door into the house she calls out to see if I am home.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend with your lovely Annie and all the gang.

I know exactly what you mean. I have had several cats over the years but have never had a relationship with the others as I have with my Sadie.
ReplyDeleteWe went to the animal shelter to adopt a cat so Kit our older cat would not be lonely. After picking up beautiful white ones and others, I kept feeling this nearly one year old cat rubbing and bumping my ankles. Sadie was mine and I was hers the second I picked her up and she tucked her head into the inside of my arm and side. She is the most loving kitty I have ever had.
Your Annie looks like a real sweetie.. I believe cats can be very loving pets. Cute photo! Thanks for sharing your post with my critter party.. Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteI remember when you brought them home. Annie and Audrey are two very lucky kitties and Annie knows it!

Sometimes l can't leave a comment....
ReplyDeleteI'm a silly emotional Sicilian...When it comes to animals,
especially cats...Loved them ALL my life, to me, there
the loveliest creature on the planet, love everything about
them...And, when God made the ultimate cat...The Tiger..
He hit the jackpot....Ah! Oh! Dear! Must Go! Ciao!
She is a beauty! I love your blog, I will be sure to keep reading.
ReplyDeleteThe singularity of sincere affection we receive from our pets is s emtionally satisfying and healing. Your sweet post really touched me. Thanks for sharing.

A really touching post. And yes, I am a 100% sure cats love their humans. Not all show it very expressively or all the time, but neither to us humans. They love us, they like to be with us.
ReplyDeleteYour story touched me too. Annie looks so sweet. All of your cats look sweet. It is easy to see that they have been loved and cared for.
ReplyDeleteAnnie reminds me so much of Fleur...the same contented expression on that muted tortie face.

She's a beauty. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteI've never had a cat (and I've had many over the years) that I didn't feel loved me. Some develop stronger bonds than others and some are closer to Zip than me, but I've always felt that their love for their humans is just as strong as their need for food and shelter. Cats seem to have this need to communicate and be acknowledged by us.
ReplyDeleteEven the semi-feral cats that live outside in our shed seem to want to be near us even though they don't want to be petted or held. Zip is the one who feeds them but when I come outside and they hear my voice they always come running because I TALK to them.
If there is one thing you can do to get close to a cat, it's talking, just like you would to another human. Believe me, they understand! Especially when you tell them how wonderful they are.
I am a firm believer that shelter animals (both dogs and cats) know that they have been rescued and are forever grateful to their human saviour. And that all cats are not as aloof as some people think.
ReplyDeleteYour Annie is a sweetheart, and very lucky that you picked her. It's nice that she can have her daughter around too, that's the natural way cats live in groups.
I totally agree!
ReplyDeleteShe is such a beauty, and such a good cat.
ReplyDeleteA lovely post!
ReplyDeleteVery loving post and great shot of your beautiful kitty ~ Our 'furpersons' do show love and loyalty better than some humans ~

How sweet. She's a beautiful cat.
ReplyDeleteMy four cats are all rescued strays, rescued by me! They all struggled to survive and were in poor condition with worms, flea allergies and my female was pregnant although only a kitten herself. They are all so loving in their own ways. Just because cats do not bound up to complete strangers with their tails wagging & their tongues hanging out doesn't mean they are not affectionate. They just save their emotions for the right people!
ReplyDeleteI swear that Princess knows the sound of the car as it pulls up outside the house, she always runs along the back passage way to greet us, Polly follows and Willow is next out of the cat flap, Yes, I'm sure they love us in their own way.

Annie is sweet girl. I do believe they form a close bond with us. I think they can love us, too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful animals.
ReplyDeleteI believe that a dog has no choice but to love you but a cat choses you. Your Annie and my Lola have chosen us. My Lola showed up at my doorstep pregnant, starving and a kitten herself. She now belongs most assuredly to me and sleeps with me every night. I kept her only kitten too...
ReplyDeleteI feel that way about Charlie. He is a part of me and I so miss him when I'm gone! Back home soon!
ReplyDeleteI had to wipe a tear away....
ReplyDeleteHow lovely that found each other...
Renos still annoying?
Cheers!
Linda :o)
I absolutely think that cats feel love for "their" people--Rupert thinks the sun rises and sets with me, he'd spend the day glued to me if I'd get a sling to carry him in.
ReplyDeleteDo they love us? Without a doubt!
ReplyDeleteI think cats are just like people. Some have a greater ability to love than others. Some love more deeply and openly and some may love deeply but you need to understand them to know this.
Oh Kari, I agree! Cats are very sensitive and you have to really take the time and effort to get to know their personalities. But if you do, the rewards are many...
DeleteSuch a sweet face :))) Great post !
ReplyDeleteI just love your sweet Annie!
ReplyDeleteSpoken so beautifully! You captured her love in her face. Content and peaceful. I can so identify with the love you feel for her. It is a gift that I also treasure and am thankful for everyday! Just lovely Deb!
ReplyDeleteI agree that cats can love people. Of course they can. I feel it from my lot. But I think I feel the fact of affection most - perhaps not love yet - from my foster-cat, Cammie. She is a loner, but now and then, she will come up on my lap and purr at the attention. She doesn't have to do that. She has chosen to let me into her life. I think she trusts and likes me. Cammie isn't the sort to allow closeness without feeling it herself, at least a little.
ReplyDeleteLove Annie's wise and beautiful face - she speaks volumes. I'm so glad you kept her and Audrey. She reflects back pure peace and contentment. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI know my Stormy loves me and I love her, too. I love all my kitties, but Stormy has a special place in my heart. Loved this post, Deb. And your Annie is a sweetie!
