Little treasures here and there

All spring and summer I fed our resident birds faithfully. I kept the birdbath full of fresh, cool water and hung a suet cage full of short, colourful wool pieces to help them, if they were so inclined, to line their nests with comfort. I patiently waited to see the birds choose one of the pretty birdhouses that hung on the maples to build a home for their spring babies. Good thing I didn't hold my breath.

So, imagine how fun it was to have this handed to me just yesterday by the retired-guy who found it inside a neighbour's chimney while helping him clean it out. It felt like Christmas morning.

Speaking of Christmas :))), I have lit up just one little tree outside our dining corner window to enjoy at night without looking too crazy. White lights, in my mind anyway, are quite acceptable year round and it has satisfied the excitement of the coming season in me for now.

My feather board is filling up thanks to the birds that reside in the area where I walk each day.
Those are three hawk feathers that are the *star* of the board.
They were all found in my neighbour's yard and given to me.

My Thanksgiving mums are still gracing the table in an old pottery vase.
Along with a cat...
always a cat. =^..^=

There is no need for a piece of sculpture
in a home that has a cat.

I'm off to cat-sit.

  1. The last week of October, so Christmas is indeed not far away. The birds and animals will wonder what the trees are up to, all lit up this year.

  4. White lights are just fine any time of year. In the summer they're on palms and pines alike for any gathering. Very cheerful when the days grow short. We can't wait to see the kitty sitee either.

  5. Lovely collection of feathers . Funny thing is I haven't found any feathers here in our yard or around the valley , strange that is . Cute little nest . The birds will probably nest in your bird houses next year sometimes it takes time for them to realize what it is if they have never really seen one and they are only used to making nests in trees ! Love your lights to . I know nature can make me feel like a kid in a candy store lol ! Thanks for sharing , Have a good day !

  7. Somehow a table or a chair doesn't look homey unless a cat has claimed the spot..
I have brought in feathers found on walks--some quite tiny, other large ones such as turkey or goose feathers. No matter where I try to hide them a cat always finds them and leaves them chewed and bedraggled on the floor.

  9. Love, love, love your featherboard! That's so beautiful -- and I really should spend more time looking under and near my feeders to see if I can find such treasures! And what a gift of your neighbor. All so wonderful!

  10. Nests are so poignant I think, that promise of new lives, and all of the work the birds put into the nest itself. What a great feather collection that you have, so inspiring. Cat statues, they are quite decorative cats aren't they? x
