"Welcome September"

"Bye, bye hot & humid August."

Boy, it's been a hot summer; one that will not go down as a favorite in my memory. The humidity has been intolerable for all of July and August and, with no rain to speak of, it's been the driest summer since the 1930's.
And although the gardens are fading out, if I was asked what my smartest purchase of the season was, it would be soaker hoses. :)

Yep, that is corn you see there. The retired guy thought he would throw a few seeds in just to see if they'd grow and ...they did.

It's been very active under the sumacs recently. I noticed  the nuthatch are back and yesterday Mr. & Mrs. Cardinal showed up after being gone for months. Downy woodpeckers and blue-jays are in abundance. I read that the goldfinch are nesting until the middle of September so I  hope to see some babies again soon.
And my chickadees never let me down. :)

"Well, look at you." :)
That's quite a balancing act.

Look how calm and trusting they are now. The top photo shows her balancing on my finger as I head over to the feeders. Isn't she adorable. I realize now that it's not easy taking a photo like this so I'll have to keep working on getting one in focus. They are so...quick.

Audrey says...
"Hey, how about bringing one inside, you know, for lunch, to tuck inside my sesame seed bun. ;-b

Brat!

hugs, Deb

  3. Wonderful photo you got of the Chickadee in your hand. Your gardens look fabulous. We too had an incredibility hot & dry summer in this part of Ontario. The corn field behind us is SO stunted I doubt much will be harvested. Happy long weekend.

  5. That's remarkable! How long did you have to keep your hand out until they eventually came? Hot, dry summer, indeed! -Jenn

  6. It is so hard to look at a photo of Audrey now. We lost our Earl Grey to a sudden illness this week. Enjoy every day, they are over all too soon. June in NC

  7. Deb, I miss feeding my birds sooooo much! I'm tempted to at least put out the flat feeder again, but the bear spottings around the house have continued all season, so it's really not wise....sigh! I shall live vicariously through you!
