Melting snow and violets

(resident chickadee)

The itty-bitty teeny-weeny mouse-house

The weather has been gorgeous for February in Ontario;
above freezing,
bright most days
or soft rain falling.
Snow is beginning to melt but we have a long way to go.
Last night we got quite a down-pour that put a dent in it
and got rid of the last of the snow on the roof.

"Bye Bye,  Snowman"

There's been lots of shoveling where 'ol Nellie can't go
and
keeping the feeders dry have taken some doing
but in all,
things have calmed down.
Long walks are more frequent now.

Just having blooms in the mouse-house
bring thoughts of bright flowers in the gardens
and budding lilac trees.
It won't be long now.
We have two lilac bushes at the entrance that will bloom in April.
I planted fifty bulbs of a variety of spring flowers last fall and can't wait to see them grow.

The indoor violets are looking good.

Blooming violets always lift my spirits.
My favorite thing about violets...
all the pretty purples.

=^..^=

These are favorite photos of Annie and the violets at our old home.
She's such a poser.

Hope the sun is shining your way.
Have a good weekend.

hugs, Deb

  1. Hello Deb, gosh you are having those snowfalls as I sit here typing with the air con on full blast & everything outside wilts & swelters. Dear Annie looks so gorgeous in your pics. Your spring bulbs will be poking their merry heads thru soon & it will all look amazing. Have a lovely week ahead Deb x x x

  4. I have a beautiful antique violet stand from my grandmother that sits empty because Clara likes to chew plants! Your violets put a smile on my face from times before we had "Audrey's look-alike!" Stay warm, my friend, XOXO

  5. I planted more bulbs last year too (and some are starting to come up). Worrisome. Those two photos of Annie and the violets are really fabulous (and so is the bird!). Have a lovely Sunday!

  9. Annie is a very good poser!

I was surprised to see lightning in the last couple of days, but I don't think winter's done with us yet.

  10. The teeny-weeny mouse-house is soooo cute sitting there in the snow. I bet it's really cozy inside there with the rain coming down. I just love it! 11. Lovely photos . Glad your snow is melting now , we are still green as ever here which now I am quite enjoying with the sun filled days . We had wicked thunderstorms over the weekend . My indoor violets were in a bit of a rest period but are starting to bud now . I have a few flowers starting in my gardens already poking through the dirt I am soo looking forward to spring . My feeders have been quiet for a week now guess the transition of migration is why they will pick up again soon and I will be trying to keep up with them once again lol ! Thanks for sharing , have a good day !

  13. Annie is beautiful in those pictures, especially the first one, but her green eyes perfectly match the foliage in the second.

It's almost March: not too much winter left.

  14. Lovely photos, Deb! Our snow melted for the most part and then the temps dropped from 67 to 37 in an hour and we got the craziest thunderstorm that dropped a couple of inches of sleet and ice!! So strange, this weather. I'm looking forward to spring - that teaser this weekend was enough to whet my appetite!
