I hope everyone is well.
Our weather has finally warmed up enough that we are able to go for walks and dress like adults; not a child heading out in a storm. That deep freeze we were in for so long took a toll on all of us. Many had flu, colds or just the dreaded cabin fever. But it's behind us for now.
Since my last post Audrey's health has declined. We have been back to the vet and to see a specialist (a neurologist) to try to get to the bottom of these seizures that she is having. She was two months with nothing and then suffered another one a week ago. So far the tests have shown nothing. She has been put on phenobarbital for now to control and prevent another seizure. We are going through an adjustment period to the medication. It's all a bit bewildering.
We may be looking at epilepsy which means she will have to be on medication for the rest of her life.
She is presently eating well, using her box, washing up and today I took her over to the house to walk around the basement and she jumped up on her cat tree and scratched on the post. That did my heart good. I'm looking for any normal activity and keeping a journal on her daily. But the medication causes drowsiness. :( Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
I promise I'll get back soon with some pretty pictures and hopefully a cheerier post.
Right now I just need to take a deep breath and carry on helping Audrey get herself stabilized on the medication. I hope this won't take long and that it is the answer we are praying for.
I have been posting a few pics on instagram from the bird feeders and outings with the grands but since Audrey's last seizure I have not left her side. We did take her in the car today and thank goodness she doesn't mind that at all; rather enjoys it. :) Tomorrow they predict sun puddles. :)

Sending a hug,
Deb

I'll keep all of you in my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteOf course Audrey is in my thoughts, I will send all my good thoughts over to her. There's nothing like a sick animal to break your heart. Humans can tell when they feel unwell but animals can't, do hope she gets better.

Oh, how these fur babies grab at our hearts, eh?
ReplyDeleteWe were hoping no news meant good news and so were sad to hear that your Audrey is struggling. We will keep you both in our thoughts. Hopefully the cause of her condition will soon be evident as will be the cure.XO
ReplyDeletelove,
Sophie and the critters in the cottage xo
I have been wondering about Audrey--and this isn't the happy bulletin I hoped for. Sadly, in my years of adopting cats, I had several rescued as kittens along with a malnourished mom cat who developed strange ailments within a few years.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that Audrey's on-going illness has detracted from your pleasure in the progress of your new home.
I am so sorry. I do hope for a good outcome for Audrey--such a personable cat!
Poor Audrey. I hope and pray she adjusts to the meds very quickly.
ReplyDeleteDeb, it was so great to see a post but, then, the let-down of reading that dear Audrey isn't doing so well. Makes me sad, actually, and I will keep her in my thoughts and you in my prayers. Believe me, I know the angst you are feeling. These kitties are our everyday life! Long-distance hug from still much too cold Nebraska ><>
ReplyDeleteIm sorry to hear Audrey is unwell. Im not sure if you have heard/read about this already...grain free and higher fat diet for animals that have seizures. It helps in hoomans too! Just a thought ❤ sending comforting thoughts your way.
ReplyDeleteOh Deb, I'm so sorry to hear this. Sending love and prayers to our Audacious Audrey -- I hope that whatever is happening will come with a diagnosis and if not a cure, at least a good way to manage it so she's not uncomfortable or in pain. I wouldn't be leaving her side, either. I was so hoping your blog absence was because of settling in the new house. Please keep us posted. I know how frightened you must be. Sending oodles of love to you both.
ReplyDeleteOh no! I was hoping she was doing better. I'm keeping her in my prayers. I know this is hard on you as well. You are such a good cat mama. Sending hugs and healing thoughts.
ReplyDeleteSending healing prayers your way.....xoxoxo

Absolutely Audrey is in my prayers & thoughts - I am sending healing thoughts your way. Smart idea to keep a journal, it may reveal a pattern which makes treatment & understanding so much more likely. Oh yes in this region of Ontario the colds & flu are taking a toll, it's my best excuse for staying indoors & away from people (lol). Be well Deb.
ReplyDeleteHealing prayers said. Gail
ReplyDeleteI feel so bad for you and Audrey. Hopefully the medication will work and she can become her usual active self. Sending prayers to both of you.
ReplyDeleteTeddy, Cassie, Mina, Oliver and their Mum send hugs, kisses, prayers, purrs and love to Audrey (and her Mum). We hope she returns to her Audacious self soon.
ReplyDeleteox
I was so hoping that Audrey was doing OK and now praying the meds will do it. You are the best kitty Mom so she is in good hands. Annie Belle and I send hugs! Thank you for your kinds words about the loss of Sam. My Mom is doing OK but misses him so much as do I.
ReplyDeleteSending good thoughts out for Audrey...oh don't you wish she could talk (or you could understand what she is telling you) just for a few minutes...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update. Sending many good thoughts and prayers.

Oh dear...you must be so stressed...
ReplyDeleteHugs to you and Audrey...💓
Cheers!

Oh my, Audrey! Having a sick kitty takes a toll on the humans, so make sure you spend some time to rest yourself, Deb. Sending purrs and hugs
ReplyDeleteWe hope Audrey will do well on her medication. Lots of hugs and purrs from our house. We know how hard it is when beloved pets aren't doing well.
ReplyDeleteThis is very discouraging news. If it is epilepsy, are there serious side-effects to the medicine? Can it be controlled enough to give her a normal life? The poor girl.
ReplyDeletePoor sweet Audrey! My little Monkey gets seizures also, although to our knowledge she hasn't had one in quite some time. She knows when it's coming and gets extremely clingy, won't leave our side, she's right under my feet. I usually scoop her up and hold her tight until it's over - it's so scary! Weirdly, I was on Phenobarbital as a kid for a number of years - and yes, it used to knock me out, I had the hardest time getting up in the mornings. Do you give it to her at night? Praying for sweet Audrey. xoxo
ReplyDeleteOur prayers are with Audrey. We love her so much. We remember when she came to you as a wee kitten. We also pray for the doctors that they may discover the cause of her problems.
ReplyDeleteDon’t worry about pretty pictures or cheerier posts. We’re here for you, Deb, through thick and thin.
Kiss Audrey for us , please.
I'm so sorry to hear that Audrey is sick again. It breaks my heart to think about what she is going through, and you too. I've been thinking about you all lately and hoping it was just the new house that was keeping you busy and not having the time to post. Please give Audrey a big hug from me, and sweet Annie too. We've missed you three!
ReplyDeleteSo sad to hear that Audrey is having health issues again. I was hoping that she had made a complete recovery and those issues were history. Will be saying a prayer for a complete recovery. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs.
ReplyDeletePrayers for your Audrey! I follow another blog called Estelle's and she has a cat Mae Mobley who also suffers from seizures and they haven't been able to nail the cause down either. Very bewildering to be sure. Sending healing thoughts for Audacious Audrey!
ReplyDeletewell wishes for Audrey! hope she gets better soon!
ReplyDeletehave wondered what has happened to your blogging, i don't have Instagram & probably never will, have too many medias going for now
stay safe & enjoy the sun puddles!
thanx for sharing
I'm sorry to hear Audrey is still unwell, my son has epilepsy too I know how it can be frightening for those near please give her a squeeze from me and a cuddle, I'll be thinking of you.
ReplyDeleteOops, just wrote and Google went haywire - so starting over!
ReplyDeleteDeb, my heartfelt good wishes go to Audrey for better health soon, and to you my dear for warmer, healthier weather up there in the cold parts of the continent!
Look forward to you having more time here - always enjoy your posts - but take all the time you need with sweet Audrey.
Hugs - Mary x
Sending positive thoughts and prayers for your dear Audrey. Sometimes life is so unfair and it is so hard to see our little friends suffer. Give her an extra little pat for me. Thinking of you. x Karen
ReplyDeleteSo sad to hear about Audrey's health issues. I was hoping the issues had been resolved since you had not mentioned any problems for some time. Saying a prayer that Audrey health issues are resolved soon. Also, thoughts and prayers with you and your family. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your post, Deb. I am so very sorry to hear of Audrey seizure. My prayers are with her and you, too.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless and Keep,
Lily
Oh poor Audrey!! You must be so worried. I hope they can pinpoint what is going on and give you a clear diagnosis. Please give her a kiss from me. I hate to think of her having all these issues. I'm glad she has such a great hu-mom to care for her.
ReplyDeleteSending healing wishes to beautiful Audrey. I'm hoping the veterinarian can help with ongoing issues, and sweet Audrey is feeling more like her self once again.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
~Jo
I'm sorry to hear about Audrey. I'm sending her, and you, healing prayers.
ReplyDeleteEar scritches to sweet Annie, too!
