Counting the kittens

One of my favorite shops in our town is the little health food store called The Granary. It is small and so unique. There is a very knowledgable woman who runs it and a nutritionist there twice a week. They are always happy to answer any of your questions and help you find your way through the vitamin section that always is a mystery to me. "What does this do, can you take this with this, how much of this does someone my age need?",  and so on. It is Dana, the shop owner that turned me on to Spiralina. I take it everyday along with my daughter and my cats. It has a fishy taste so the cats are more than happy when I add it to their soft food and it helps to boost their immune systems. Lord knows, mine needs a boost.
It is at this quaint store that I buy my organic eggs that come from a farm only minutes away. Organic free-range eggs. Doesn't that just sound so much better then what we get in the grocery stores. It makes me happy to know these chickens live a normal chicken's life. I won't buy anything else now that I have tasted one of these fresh eggs. Without a word of a lie, these eggs even make my baking taste better. And that pumpkin bread I posted yesterday......1 loaf gone. I better take Kane for an extra walk today.

I am off to kitty-sit and I am also helping our 'foster lady' in our town with some kittens so she can cross the border to do some Christmas shopping. These are the latest kittens born to 2 throw-away cats that were rescued off the streets. One was put in a box and left in front of a store and the other was just booted out the door and the people moved. I'll stop right here talking about this because this is where I get nasty. :(

I love kittens. I will take 6 please. (hee hee)
This little boy loved me.

There is always a little 'runt' and this one I could just eat up
He's already wrecked my old jeans.

Here's mommy looking rather surprised but very happy to see company so she can have a break. This is the cat that someone left in a box in front of a store in town. She was pregnant and there was no room at the pound so she was scheduled to be euthanized. All these cats would  have lost their life that day except that Shelly dropped in to the pound to pick up another cat and when she saw this desperate mother-to-be cat she brought her home and now her kittens are growing and full of life. Once the kittens are adopted and gone to their new homes then Shelly will find a good home for the mother. I just know Santa will be good to Shel.

ALL THE KITTENS HAVE BEEN ADOPTED AS OF TODAY.

I'm wrapping and filling stockings and watching HOME ALONE tonight.
The only thing better would be to have that little grey guy on my lap but he's already spoken for and my inn is full.
HUGS, DEB

  1. I know what you mean...my Inn is full too. I've loved cats my entire life. I'll never understand how people can just throw animals away. All of our cats and our dog are rescues. Some were rescued by me and some were rescued by others and adopted by us, but we just can't take any more. I think there needs to be free or based on income spay and neutering. I had four ferals fixed in the last six month at a low cost place, but it still was around $50 per animal with the mandatory rabies shot. That's too expensive for a lot of folks who love animals, but don't get them fixed due to the cost.

  5. Oh Deb..... you are a person after my heart!!! I love animals so much..... and kitty's especially. In heaven.... every person and animal will be loved and wanted...... no thirst or hunger....

I know that I shouldn't judge.... but it's really hard for me not to judge people by the way they treat animals....

  6. Hooray for all the kittens being adopted! It just breaks the heart how some people treat animals.

I don't know what I am going to do with the stray kitty I have been taking care of the last two weeks. The SPCA is full and won't take him. :( Luckily it's not supposed to be cold out and I have put together a pretty snug and warm shelter and of course am making sure he has food and water. Last night I sat outside with him for an hour (almost froze my butt off ~ haha) and he fell asleep wrapped up in my arms and coat. I put his photo up on the "lost & found". sigh...

  7. Deb, I'm so glad to know this story has a happy ending. Some people are just so cruel! Those little kitties are adorable. The little smokey gray one is my favorite. The mother is a beautiful kitty too. You are a jewel.
    You are a sweetie,
