Feline Friday - Start your own cat-sitting business
Just Cats In-home Cat-sitting Service is a service provided by myself for people who do not want their cats to go to a boarding kennel. I GO TO THE CAT.
There is no place like home when it comes to the cat because not only are we special to our kitty but so is all their favorite stuff such as their beds, window-sills, toys, chairs & the owner's bed if they are so allowed to snooze there.
Cats are not pack animals and prefer not to be placed where there are many unfamiliar animals & scents. Some cats will actually be so stressed that they will refuse to eat at the kennel which can become a very serious situation. If they are left at home, the familiarity of everything keeps them relaxed and comfortable.
Some of my blogging friends have asked if I take the cats in to my home but I do not do that because I already have cats & a dog and it would not be as easy for the cat to adjust. The whole idea of my service is to keep the cat at home and less-stressed. Most cats will have 1 or 2 daily visits which include play-time. meals prepared, litter box cleaned, brushing and grooming & lots of bonding time. I recommend that the owner leave a radio on, a light where the cat spends most of it's time and a familiar piece of clothing from the owner for the cat to cuddle up on.
If someone would like to start an in-home (client's home) cat-sitting service in their area, I would be happy to give you information that will help you get started. I think it would be great to have someone offer this in all cities so that cats can benefit from it and be much happier while their owners travel. If you love cats and would like to try a new business I recommend this highly. I have been providing cat care for 15 years.
If you've been thinking of it then JUST DO IT. You Will Love It!
hugs, Deb
If M were younger and didn't have Parkinson's Disease, she would do just that. Our pet sitter operates the same way you do, and she's really good to me. In fact, she goes above and byond what is expected and feeds our birds too. When you find a good pet sitter such as yourself, I hope the clients appreciate what they have.
ReplyDeleteI have always said there is the need for a service such as this in my little town.
ReplyDeleteThe space at the vet's office is extremely limited, oftentimes they refuse to even take boarders.
I would love more information on getting started.
You provide a wonderful service.

I would love to find someone like you to take care of our dogs so we could take a short vacation. We've tried it twice and always came back alarmed at the condition of our dogs. After the last time, I cannot bring myself to leave them in the hands of another. The locals are not the most reliable people here to care for animals. Your clients must sure appreciate your caring for their cats. Your doggie, Kane, looks awfully sweet :)
ReplyDeleteI think we all love the idea of caring for pets but we do recognize that this is much more difficult than it looks. You have to be willing to work weekends, holidays, evenings( if that's when the kitty needs his meds). It requires much more planing and organization than just showing up at the office at the appointed hour. And there is no calling in sick. I live in an area where lots of retirees attempt pet sitting but very few continue after a few months. They find that people want more than just someone to open a can of food for their pet and leave. An acquaintance hired a charming gentleman who during the course of his hire got the flu and didn't show up for 3, yes 3 days to feed or let the two little dogs out. Neighbors called about it.
ReplyDeleteWe know that just because you love it, it doesn't mean it's easy. You Really care Deb. You make a difference.
Pet sitters like yourself provide such a valuable service. Cats are definitely better off being left at home in their familiar surroundings, with someone coming by at least once a day to check on them. I'm always amazed, though, at the number of people who still think nothing of leaving their cat home alone for a week with food and water but not having someone come by to see if they are ok. Talk about a recipe for disaster.
ReplyDeleteThe cats in your care are incredibly lucky!!
ReplyDeletelove the new look to your blog!!
ReplyDeleteI occasionally do think of having a cat sitting business but right now I don't know if I have the time.
I used to sit for my friend's cats when I lived in Cleveland and had such a blast doing it. The problem with me is I never want to leave them to come home!
You are right about the best place for a cat to be when their owners are away is at home...no kenneling...I wouldn't ever do that to a cat. They like their own surroundings.
Hmmm...I am thinking that maybe I should reconsider....I know I won't come home though!
