Winter is here & our little Cali cat

It snowed all night and Audrey just noticed. She is totally fascinated with the sparkle and shine of the fresh snow.

I am just back from the vet clinic with Cali. It's odd that I had just posted about her and then she had a bad night and is now straining in the litter-box. She had a blood test awhile back that showed deterioration of her kidneys so I am told it is expected that her kidneys are failing. Our vet gave her a shot of antibiotics which should help for 2 weeks so hoping that her kidneys will do the trick for now. I know our time with her is short but she is eating, drinking, enjoying her cardboard box by the fire and getting around. If we can settle her kidneys she will have another Christmas with us. I'm hoping for that at this point. It's all I've got.  I'll keep you posted on how she is doing.

Have a fun day and if you are in Ontario...enjoy the snow. Now that Cali is settled, I'm off to bunny-sit.

"I asked her....she said "Naughty."
hugs, Deb

  1. Hold Cali close, and give her a gentle hug (and some nose kisses) from me.

  4. Will say a special prayer for Cali. I have had a cat with kidney failure and used to care for patients with it so know more than I want to about it. That is a lot of snow. hugs, Olive

  6. Hugs to you and Cali. Our little Missy went into kidney failure at the young age of 8. A few months after she shed her furry body our Quinn went into kidney failure at the age of 17. The loss of two furry bodies so close together. Then we got the two ferals Rocky and Riley -- and they both had heart problems and shed their furbodies at even younger ages. I'm sure hoping that Teddy, Cassie and Mina stay around awhile! I sure love loving them!

It snowed the last couple of days here too. when i open the door to let lil boy out he just looks at me to say " you seriously think im going to set paw on THAT stuff???" an upturned nose turns around and goes to the treat door instead :-)

  8. How we wish that our animal friends had life-spans more like those of humans. The partings, whether they occur too early in a pet's life or when they are ripe with years are very difficult. Yet to be without animal companions would be very bleak.
I know you will love and care for Cali as long as that is possible and will, in kindness, call an end when the time seems right--for her.

  9. Just something to ponder. My cat has been in renal failure for a year but is thriving on the medication, Azodyl, sprinkled in the special renal failure food by Hills, R/D twice a day. Don't know his age as he was adopted. Also some give subcutaneous fluids to decrease dehydration. We added extra water bowls for him in every room. Hugs to you and Cali and stay warm.

  10. Thanks Marilyn for this advice. I will speak to the vet about the medication. Cali has been in renal failure quite some time now and is on the soft food. She drinks a lot so she was not dehydrated today. She is in her 20th year now.

  19. I'm just playing catch up in reading and found out Cali is ill. I'm so sorry! I lost my dearest cat friend a year ago this week and I'm still not over it. I hope you get your Christmas with her. She couldn't ask for anyone better to help her at this time!
