Comforting words

Thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart,  for all your thoughtful and kind words on the passing of our Kane.
Each message made me cry and I felt such love from everyone.
I appreciate your comforting words.
It seems that most have been through the sadness of losing a dog and understood all too well the void that is now in our life.
I hope in time the sadness lessens because right now it is truly awful.

Our silly dog back in 2005.
He was a ball dog through & through.
And he loved to make us laugh.

Today I looked over to see my mother's violet in full bloom.
I had not noticed it for days and the first thought I had was that mom wanted me to know that she was sending her love at this sad time.
It felt comforting because, well, it doesn't matter how old you are, your mother's love is always a comfort and I felt her presence today. When she was young and growing up on the farm her companion dog was a collie named Jollie. She loved her so much and I know she would have loved our Kane.
I hope they have met now in heaven and will go on a long walk to get to know each other.

Kane was buried on our property today along with his chewed-up ball and a family photo.
I couldn't have it any other way.
I will always feel he is home where he belongs.

Until we meet again, my Kane.
hugs, Deb

  3. This post makes me cry, Deb. I know you feel such void right now. How precious that your mom's violet blooms gave you comfort today. My dog and cat who died earlier this year are buried on our property and each morning when I raise my window blind, I think of them. I hope you know how many of us care for you and this tremendous loss you both are experiencing. xo

  4. A beautiful tribute to him. We've all had dogs and cats that have passed on. Kane always reminded me of Mandy, our collie when I was a child.

  5. Oh yes, most of us know that pain and void. We also know that the first week is the hardest and as the pain lessens and you can talk about him without tears, then soon the laughter, smiles and funny stories are fun to tell again. I'm so glad you buried him on your property...it just had to be...it's where he belongs. I love that your violet bloomed...what sweet timing, too! Hugs...

  6. As much as I look forward to seeing my love ones in Heaven, it is so comforting to know we will also see and be with all of our beloved pets too.....Kane will be wagging his tail, and all your kitties will be rubbing your leg, tails up and purring.
Your Mother's violet is lovely, and blooming now is so special and comforting at this time.....
May each day become less sad for you and the retired guy.

  7. We've only had to say goodbye to our kitties never having had a dog - one lost to an unfortunate accident, the other grew tired and sick after spending 21 years bringing us so much joy, we had to help her leave for a better place.
Kane will always be with you in spirit - he was a lovely boy.

Hugs to you dear Deb -

  10. I am so sorry to read of Kane's passing. A good and faithful companion, he was. These leavings of beloved pets seem to get harder, the older we get. I am still mourning Mr. Ed and Lily's passing. Perhaps they are together now. Hugs, Deb.

  17. I'm still crying from the previous post. My old girl is getting up there and her health is not the best....I know I will be a mess when she goes and I'm praying her time is not in the near future. I have lost more than one dog that I loved dearly and it is akin to losing a dear member of your family. I send you big hugs, Deb xoxo

  18. I don't know that the sadness lessens but I think the pain does, except at certain times. I miss my Tungsten very much, and always will. I have a cat who is twelve, two who are ten and one who is eight. There will be more anguish coming. But as Chrystal, from Daily Dose of Dogs, wrote (and I hope she will forgive me for quoting her): "Knowing in advance how scarred my heart would be after a lifetime of this [living with animals], would I choose it all over again? You bet I would. I’ve spent my whole life living with animals. And what a wonderful life it is!"

She is right. Our pets make our lives shine, even when that shine is sometimes eclipsed by darkness. Would we rather have lived without them? I may be presumptuous in thinking there is only one answer to that question. God bless everyone there.

  19. Oh, and that picture of Kane between the tree trunks is adorable. It must be a favourite of yours. Who can look at that and deny that dogs have a sense of humour?
