Sunlight in the mouse-house takes the edge off this cold winter day.
It didn't surprise me to see a chickadee be the first to the seed wreath this morning. Isn't it sweet.
There were others interested in this addition to the feeding area.
Nuthatch
It's a big hit. :)
This cold weather turns me into a lover of hot tea. Actually, any weather does that, but that's my excuse for partaking more than most these days.
I LOVE TEA.
While enjoying my tea I saw a dark shadow fly by the dining-corner window.
Audrey almost peed her pants when an unexpected visitor arrived at the feeder at the side of the mouse-house.
He stayed for quite awhile and I think the home-made suet will bring him back again. Hope so.
Feeding the birds can be very entertaining....for man or beast. ;-)
Audrey's lying on the couch now with a cold cloth on her head.
Hope you are having a sunny day today.
hugs, Deb

He flew in slowly and landed on the suet cage.
She went flat and her eyes were the size of golf balls.
A Pileated Woodpecker.
He's a handsome devil, isn't he?

Too funny! Oh, Audrey! Handsome fella, indeed!
ReplyDeleteWoodpeckers do love suet, and this one stands out beautifully.
ReplyDeleteWow! I get some woodpeckers but not this one! Oh, yes, I can imagine Audrey's expression!
ReplyDeleteAudrey, you are one of the most entertaining cats ever!!
ReplyDeleteA little swoonie, huh Audrey? That woodpecker is magnificent, but I like the nuthatch the best from today's birdy lineup. Such great photos!
ReplyDeleteThe woodpecker is a handsome chap!
ReplyDeleteThere great to watch to...! :).
Audrey!x Audrey!x What do you call a
woodpecker with no beak..???
No! A Head banger!!! :>). Bless!x
Wishing Miss Audrey a quick "recovery"! :)
ReplyDeleteLove how you have the photos of on your fridge.
That's one handsome bird. Birds don't seem to go in much for camouflage, do they? The vain creatures.
ReplyDeleteI love that bird feeder wreath! Can you tell me where you found it? Or did you make it? You are making me want to run out and get special bird feeders for winter...you have such beautiful birds...not so much here.
ReplyDeleteP S I love my multiple cups of tea a day, too!
ReplyDeleteOh WOW ! lucky you to have one at your feeder I have never had one as they tend to stay in the deep of the forest . Lovely photos of him to ! I LOVE TEA also I was raised on it being of British parents lol ! Oh poor Audrey what a shock to see such a thing and not be able to chase it lol ! I love it when the sun is out even if it is cold like today not a cloud in the sky sunny with a bright blue sky . I knew your wreath feeder would be a hit . Thanks for sharing , have a good day !
ReplyDeleteOh, that woodpecker is so cool!
ReplyDeleteAnd you posted pictures of that gorgeous black and white mug just to make me jealous, didn't you!! haha.
Is that the woodpecker that is so rare or am i thinking of another kind!
ReplyDeleteThey are not really rare here, I believe. We've seen them before in the trees.
DeleteBeach Gypsy, you may be thinking of the Ivory-billed Woodpecker...
DeleteYes, they look similar. I just looked it up. Thanks Wendy.
DeleteI would have been almost as excited as Audrey to see that woodpecker. Love the wreath!
ReplyDeleteOh what fantastic photos! Magical that you captured such wonderful woodland birds....looks cold...hot tea and the fireside is on order! Love your mugs so much!
ReplyDeleteI used to see those big boys regularly in the woods by my rental house - none at my new house as of yet! Aren't they impressive?
ReplyDeleteHow exciting to have the woodpecker visit! We have them here, but it is always a thrill to see them come out of hiding. Tea is a comfort on these short winter days - I will be so happy when there is more daylight! Looks like your sweet wreath is very popular. xx Karen
ReplyDeleteGreat photos, Deb. ow fun! I do believe you love cats and tea as much as I do!
ReplyDeleteAudrey on the couch with a cold cloth on her head...too funny! I do believe our Nebr. weather rivals yours up there in Canada these days. Your violets are lookin' good! Hugs from Nebr. ><>
ReplyDeleteI am impressed, Deb! Woody Woodpecker at your feeder! Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying my afternoon cup of tea too! I think I will make that muffin loaf again on Saturday! Delicious!
Cheers!
Linda :o)
I don't think I've ever seen a woodpecker...they are pretty.
ReplyDeleteI laughed so much at that sentence about Audrey with the cold cloth, LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful woodpecker - bet he does return to your pretty suet ring, it looks so tempting. Had a huge Northern Flicker in back garden today - all golden colored and so lovely.
Winter is here - we're prepared for a really bad weather day tomorrow!
Hugs - and thank goodness for tea, and coffee and chocolate!!
I am still laughing about Audrey and the woodpecker !Sipping hot tea indoors when it is cold outdoors simply hits the spot. Especially when you get to hang out with Audrey and watch birds.
ReplyDeleteIt must be great to see so many different birds from your window.
ReplyDeleteLiz
Audrey lying on the couch with a cold cloth on her head..........I am still chuckling at that.
ReplyDeleteI love those big Pileated guys! I wish they would come to our feeders! But they are in our woodlot.
