"Hmmmm! I'll have to give this some thought."
"Remember last year I gave you your own 'bird tree' to do with as you pleased and you completely ignored it after destroying my kitchen Christmas tree the year before?"
"No, I don't recall that. I think you are losing it"
"No Audrey. What I am losing is my patience because I LOVE Christmas trees and I want one in my kitchen again.
Can I trust that you are a bit older and have more will-power to be a good girl and keep your clawdhoppers off my decorations?"
"Have I ever told you that when you wince like that you look 90?"
"Alright. I see we aren't going to come to any agreement today. So, I'll take my chances and not let you run this house. I'm putting my foot down (maybe two) and if I find my Christmas decor scattered two ways to Sunday you are not getting the feather wand you wrote Santa about, along with your plea for him to rescue you from the prison you are in and take you back with him to the North Pole. I'll write him a note about you he will soon not forget.""Alright"
"Get a grip on yourself."
"yah...a kitchen tree."
Alright, on to some baking...This cake is one that I like to keep on hand in the freezer over Christmas. It is swirled with cinnamon and sugar and is great served warm or cold. I guarantee you will enjoy this.
The Loaf Cake
My mom called this 'the loaf cake'...plain and simple.
1/4 cup of butter
1 cup of white sugar
2 eggs
2 cups of flour
1 cup of sour milk (add a 1/2 tsp. of vinegar to milk)
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
Mix all the above ingredients together.
In a separate bowl mix together 1 tsp. cinnamon and 3 tbsp. brown sugar.
Put half of the cake ingredients in pan then a layer of cinnamon and brown sugar.
Then add half the ingredients and a layer of cinnamon and brown sugar on top.
Cook 1 hour at 350 degrees.
Enjoy!

Thank you.
Must have been the times. Mu mom and Nana had a similar cake recipe except they called it a coffee cake and they (and now me) baked it in an 8 x 8 square pan. I guess it doesn't matter what shape it is it is deeelicious. Have a great wkend. Still want me to sew that table runner?
ReplyDeleteWe think a kitchen tree is a fabulous idea!
ReplyDeleteHave fun Audrey :)
Maybe Audrey really plans to be good this year, especially if she wants that feather wand. :-) I've been contemplating having an "extra" little tree this year, but I'm not sure our Chase Bird will be able to leave it alone.
ReplyDeleteI laughed out loud at the photo with the caption "I have I told you when you wince like that you look 90" what an amazing photo of Audrey. Love the sound of this cake and it's easy too! I think some baking before putting up your kitchen tree is purrfect!
ReplyDeleteHi I just love Audrey's expressions, but I think you haven't got much chance of keeping a tree safe in your kitchen going by her responses to your questions !!! She is just a real character and I bet there aren't many dull moments with her about, love Steph
ReplyDeleteThe cake looks delicious Deb! Wishing you a happy weekend!

HAHAHAHAHA! Well, I need to stop laughing because I just got a vision of the Louise version of this happening with my Christmas tree this year... oops!
ReplyDeleteLoaf looks great!
Best Wishes for you to enjoy your Christmas Tree this year! I am trying to decide about putting one up myself. One of our new kitties is supposed to be 2 years old... but I don't know that she is! She is still very, very wild in her play! I may just forgo the tree this year and keep the house full of Christmas peace! : )
ReplyDeleteLove how the loaf looks!
Lily, WA, USA
My mom made a very similar kind of cake.
ReplyDeleteAudrey, Audrey, Audrey, you are such a magnificent cat. But of course you know that.
I think your mom and I had a lot in common, William. Yes, Audrey knows it big time.
DeleteHa ! I love this post because I also have a cat that loves to decimate little elves, scatter Christmas ornaments, and chew up wrapping paper. The last photo of your cat almost looks like a human face peering into the camera. Wow !
ReplyDeleteCats, I love mine to pieces, but also love decorating & entertaining. Somehow I manage to pull it all off but always knowing I might be cleaning up the debris my cat has made of Christmas decorating just before company comes.
Well, I'm laughing like crazy because Lizzie Cosette and I will be having the same discussion in due course. And I suspect she and Audrey will have similar thoughts! The cinnamon cake looks and sounds delicious. Thanks for sharing the recipe. I might whip that one up here!
ReplyDeleteOMC - M is laughing like crazy over your post. She thinks the pictures of your kitty just says it all! Talk about expressive.
ReplyDeleteOh yum! That loaf looks very yummy!
ReplyDeleteAww yes...the reasoning with the kitties to stay away from the Christmas decorations. Good luck!

Hi Deb....
ReplyDeleteThat cake looks scrumptious!!!
I make a similar one...with sour cream!
That cat sure has a lot of personality!
Enjoy your day♥
Cheers!
Linda :o)

Titti
I am wishing you great good luck with the irrepressible Audrey!
ReplyDeleteI must make this loaf cake; the aroma must be amazing while it is baking!
What a magnificent looking cinnamon loaf!
ReplyDeleteDeb! What a magnificent looking cinnamon loaf! I must try this! Audrey looks rather indignant having her picture made. We made our donation today for Miss Molly and her nine babies.....I worry about her. I hope it helps toward her care. Hugs back to you.
ReplyDeleteLOLOL. I love Audrey, a cat with attitude.
ReplyDeleteI´m not sure this is going to make you happy ?!
ReplyDeleteI´m 3 1/2 years old and my mom-person has given up her hopes on having any Christmas tree as long as I live *mol*
Oh Audrey, do let Mama have her tree. I meant to tell you your header is brilliant.
