Celebrating as we do.

The weather outside is dry & chilly. Not a snowflake in sight.
I stood at the window watching the family of squirrels bouncing over each other as they cleaned up all the crumbs from yesterday's feeding at the bird-feeders. One lonely mourning dove joined them.

I have some fun with the squirrel-feeder that we built for these bandits. I put pieces of toast and peanut butter inside and the first to the box sits inside for the longest time licking it's prize. There is usually another waiting at the door.
I am starting to think I am the only one on this planet that gets a kick out of squirrels and their antics.
Everyone I mention them to hates them with a passion.

I'll head in to the city later and pick up the last gift on my list. That alone will make my day. All done!

We've had a full weekend of enjoying the company of friends and watching as many Christmas movies as we can stand. We all have our favorites; mine being The Christmas Story.

So far the felines have enjoyed killing off the unbreakables at the bottom of our Charlie Brown tree.
Audrey will drag off an unsuspecting felt bird or reindeer to her hidey-hole. And even in a mouse-house ( 600 sq, ft.) I have yet to find some bodies.
"I've been here all along."

"YOU have trust issues."

Oh well, it's Christmas and we all celebrate in our own way.
"Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays."

hugs, Deb

  1. I happen to love squirrels, except when they throw stuff at me in my backyard! We have black ones, grey ones, and brownish ones, so they are fun to watch...and of course, the cats like to watch them too! Audrey, are you hugging that heater?

  2. I have nothing against squirrels. They do little harm, I think. And if everyone else hates them, I'd probably feed and protect them all the more. Hehehe.

As for Yuletide movies, I can't have Christmas without the 1951 version of "A Christmas Carol".

  5. I too love watching squirrels. We had a number born and raised in some trees in our yard and most of them have stuck around, judging by how much sunflower seed we go through in a single day!
    Have a wonderful holiday!

  8. That Audrey, why does she snarl like that when you take a picture?? So funny!! My Annie stops and poses!!

My favorite movie is the original Christmas in Connecticut, and the Pastor's Wife, I think that's the name of it, with David Niven and Loretta Young. Merry Christmas!!

  9. The one thing I look forward to when I log onto the computer each morning is seeing Audrey and the expressions on her face. She absolutely cracks me up.

I love the squirrels and chipmunks and all of God's creatures. They cost a bit in the winter because they truly love the birds' food. I have put out apples and some other fruits and breads for them but these West Virginia squirrels wants the sunflower seeds. ha I'm going to try the peanut butter option you offer ... maybe they'll try it.

  10. I love watching squirrels. I feed them and the birds in my backyard, as well as the neighborhood outdoor cats. Of course, the squirrels help themselves to the cat food as well.

I've also been guzzling as many Christmas movies as I can. I enjoy watching them into early January as well, since December 25th is really just the first day of Christmas! Merry Christmas!

  11. I like feeding anything!
My movie favorites are It's a Wonderful Life, White Christmas and A Christmas Story. But let's not forget delightful Natalie Wood and Edmund Gwenn ( who I am convinced IS Santa) in Mitacle on 34th Street 1947.

  13. I adore watching squirrels, so I am in your camp. But I know many who have bad squirrel stories to tell...like,"they moved into my attic, had a gazillion babies and demolished all the electrical and insulation!!!" Glad that wasn't me. Wishing you a wonderful Christmas!

  14. Merry Christmas, Deb! I know this will be a bittersweet one for you and your retired guy, missing your dear Kane. My hubby and I love squirrels. We spent hours gleaning ear corn that our neighbor let us have after harvest to feed them.

  15. I love squirrels but I also have felt alone in my appreciation of them. They CAN be quite horrible, but other than that, they're the clowns of our neighborhood. We have one that lost his tail but not his attitude. He marches right up to our cats with a "Wanna fight?" look, and he loves to "steal" our hose, dragging it as far as he can.

  16. I hate to miss even one of your posts! My Mother hated squirrels to the point that we kidded her about it. I have always loved the squirrels and think they are the cutest when they sit up and fold their little hands in front of them. That Audrey!

  17. Ha! Lizzie is pretty good about ornaments -- so far, so good! Funny you find them hidden!

I love A Christmas Story, too. We haven't sat down this year to watch it yet -- but we will!

  18. Ah, Audrey!

I may call squirrels devious rascals, but I rather like them.
