Time to haggle

I must brag for a second..."Look at these two cutie-pies."

These are my grand-kids, Riley and Bradley. He is almost 7 weeks old and 14 pounds now and doing so well. Riley is 2 1/2.
This is going to be a FUN Christmas. Riley is 'pumped'. :)

                                                                  Junkin'

Because I am looking for a cabinet, we (as in the retired-guy and me) were junkin' again this morning. I fell in love with this one but the price is OUTRAGEOUS! I plan to try to talk them down tomorrow and then look at it again. I had to almost stand on my head to get this lousy photo. It was hidden behind other pieces. This would fit in well with my dining-room table and chairs plus I just want it.
This was nice too but more expensive at $3,000.00. "Outrageous!"
This old barn is packed with goodies but cold as the arctic in there. Good thing we were prepared.
The cabinet in this photo was so TALL. You had to be 6 ft. to reach the top shelf and it needed a face-lift. There was no price on it.
It's a beautiful, very cold but sunny day today so Kane and I left for a walk.

Look at this poor, old mutt. Because of Kane's allergies he has lost hair on his shoulders and back over the summer and actually has bald patches. Hence, he has to wear a coat now until the hair grows back. This year was the worst we have seen him as it was so hot and the culprit, ragweed, was everywhere, even growing through the cracks in the sidewalk. We have bathed him once a week all summer and he has been on benadryl and a holistic concoction from our vet. It has been very hard on him and he is not at the finishing line yet. He looks like a neglected dog with such a thin coat and patchy skin. Our vet keeps telling us that he will be fine again soon. His skin needs to recover now.

This fella was enjoying the sun on a cement block even on this cold day.
Obviously, he has ALL his coat.

Audrey and Annie sunning themselves.
When Audrey was a tiny baby she would always sleep with her head on her mother's back.
She still does today.

Riley is coming for a visit tomorrow so we are planning breakfast out and some book shopping. Then I am off to cat-sit three of my favorite kitty clients.
Great way to end the week.

Have a good weekend.
hugs, Deb

  1. Why are cabinets sooo expensive?! We bought one for the ktichen some years ago and it was too expensive but I liked it so...I hope you get yours :)
    Your grandchildren are lovely.
We have problems with Esme's coat too due to allergies. She was given salmon by guests recently and had a very, very bad allergic reaction and now patches of her coat are missing.Ugh.

  2. Hi Deb: That is a really nice cabinet. Hope you can get if for what makes you comfortable. I think it's all in the how much you want it, however. The babies are so cute and both growing so fast. What a great Christmas you will have this year. Poor Kane. We have had other goldens in the past with skin allergies, but so far we've been pretty lucky in that department with Bud. Although I have noticed him scratching lately, I think when we turn the stoves back on it dried out the air sometimes. Kitties so cute as usual..Happy Friday..Judy

    1. Yes, but it shouldn't be. The younger generation do not seem to want the old furniture so they depend on the older generation to buy this stuff. Most antique places are packed to the roof with the same pieces that have been there for a year. This should be the time for us to get great deals.

  5. So much goodness in one post! Of course you have to brag about your grandkids; they are absolutely precious. Bradley has grown and changed a lot and you can sure tell he belongs in that family! And the antiques barn had my heart beating faster! Hope you can get that beautiful hutch. Poor Kanie. We know he is anything but a neglected dog. Hope he feels better soon and gets a nice thick coat back for the winter.

  6. Love the cabinet but yikes to the price! You will find the right piece I'm sure. Poor old Kane, I feel that way after my allergies hit also. Hope he is better soon. Enjoy your time with Riley!!

  7. Too bad you don't live in Kansas as far as furniture prices - the auctions around our little town are great places to pick up inexpensive items. I am in love with lawyer bookcases and have been fortunate to find them anywhere from 250.00 to 700.00 (it was a VERY extremely nice one). Cabinets like you are looking at command lots less than what your shops are asking....too bad they want so much. I don't know how the auctions are in your area, but you should try them - you might come away with a cabinet for a reasonable price.
Love the cats and your grandkids are dolls. We have 5 of them (grandkids) and 9 inside cats with 4 outside (ferals) that have become tolerant of me and have a cathouse in our backyard to live in. Two dogs, doberman & a bulldog, as well. They are all so very loved.

  14. Today, I went to the beachfront with my children.
I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She put the
shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside
and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to tell someone!
