Stop the madness!

This harried lady that sits on my dresser is a constant reminder to get the message out to Spay or Neuter your cat.

She's absolutely frazzled...
trying to find loving, forever homes for all these kittens that her cat keeps producing.
She's tearing her hair out. (Actually Audrey did that but I'm ok with it...it added to the message.)

I loath the words 'Free Kittens'
We see this in our paper all the time.
Free Kittens
Handing them out like they were inanimate objects.
What does it take for people to learn, to care, to spay?

I know I am preaching to the choir here but this is now 'kitten season' and our local rescues are already full and expecting to be full of kittens all summer. It boggles my mind that we do not have a Free Spay and Neuter clinic in this area to stop the madness.

Here are 10 reasons to Spay or Neuter your cat...

  1. I agree totally. Breaks my heart. And the very same happens with dogs. Unloved, unwanted, betrayed and often killed in kill shelter. What a cruel, stupid and irresponsible world.

  2. My stomach churns when I see that sign. Dog fighting groups take advantage of free kittens. I'll not go into detail.

  3. I agree. So sad. All the rescues and shelters in my area are full. So tempting to take in another, but my three would probably revolt!

  4. I've never understood why people don't spay/neuter their pets. It is a one-time expense and shelters have all they can handle with stray cat litters. Don't give me the "miracle of birth" excuse, either!

  5. Yes, you're speaking to the choir here, but that is OK. I get so upset when the people down the street have a new litter every year and then let them roam free. I've had to tell them I found one kitten in the road dead, where it had apparently been hit by a car. Her response? "Oh, that was one of my favorites." Yeah, I can tell. The thing is, we have a low-cost spay/neuter clinic in our area. People just don't want to take the time or the small expense to do it. Or they have misguided notions about the cats needing to produce.

  6. Well said and yet, how incredibly sad that there are SO many helpless animals in every city across the country. Why are people so irresponsible? why do breeders make so much money off breeding dogs? If only.....people...people would be caring and decent.

  7. Spaying and neutering is just the right thing to do.

  9. Gaaah makes me crazy when people let cats have litters!!! I believe just one in ten cats brought into our shelter are adopted, and our shelter has the second highest cat intake rate in Ontario. :( So much suffering because people are too, sorry, STUPID to neuter and spay. ;(
