Feline Feast

I've been busier than a cat chasin' it's tail.
So many gorgeous cats were in my care this past week. 4 Tuxedoes, a calico, a brown tabby, a stunning grey, orange tabbies, orange & whites and a grey and white domestic short-hair. I've been on the road most of the weekend but lovin' every minute of it.

If I remember correctly, I wanted this job when I was a  kid. I knew I loved cats and I wanted to work with them.

'Work' is an odd word to use here but it is a business, afterall.  Here I am, a grand-mother for goodness sake, doing just that. Life's funny sometimes.

These were my kitty clients this past weekend.

It's time to get ready for the war on fleas. If your cats are indoor/outdoor (some of ours are) then checking them everyday with a flea comb is necessary. There are many products you can buy from your vet but know that they all contain very strong chemicals. I try to stay away from that along with flea collars and flea powder. Both can make some cats very ill. I know if I put any of these products on my geriatric cats they will keel over dead.  Younger cats (not kittens) seem to tolerate the treatments so if the natural way doesn't work then I suggest you talk to your vet. If you want to go the natural way you can add 1/4 tsp of  brewers yeast to your cats' soft food a few times a week. Also, make a lemon spray. Equal parts lemon juice & water.  Put this in a spray bottle and spray your cat's coat before it goes outside (every 3rd day). If they are afraid of the spray bottle you can sponge the mixture on their coat. Make no mind of the looks you get...they'll be happy to be flea-free. Always comb your cat with the proper flea comb which can be purchased at any pet store.

Just wanted to show you our screened-in porch at night.
We're spending lots of time out here with the felines. Ed is always last one in. He hides under the table so I won't bring him inside.

The little dickens.

hugs, Deb

  3. So many beautiful cats, and so lovely to see Cooper again (I love your photo of him stretching up to kiss you).

my old boy, Zebby Cat, didn't know his own strength when he woke me up over night - he gave me an impressive black eye! And it isn't the first time ....... You'd better hide comment this from Audrey!!!

  9. I am so jealous of your job!!! I have 5 kitties (see more about them and how I got them in my About Me tab at www.fivecatsfromcrazy.com) My kitties are SUPPOSED to be indoor babies, but 2 of them are notorious for escaping. They are on a monthly flea treatment...Program...but I will also try the flea comb as they all love love love a little brushy time. I suspect the prime source of their little buggies would be from the dog.

  11. Thanks for the natural flea prevention tips. I have some freinds who had to give their kitty some flea meds (vet prescribed) and he became so sick. They stopped giving it to him and he got better.
Poor little guy. He seems fine now.
Your screened porch is lovely. Like a mini-get a way. You can
hardly blame Mr. Ed for not wanting to come inside! =)

We are hoping to be home sometime Monday. Will let you know for sure soon.
Alberta is experiencing pretty warm days (in the 30's all week) this week. Must admit I have missed the heat.
