Brown Transferware & an anniversary

I found this little egg-cup at the thrift store. There is nothing written on it so I don't know where it is from. To me, it's like a piece of art.
I have it sitting out to admire.
I love brown transferware and am on the look-out for it all the time.
Today, it is 30 years since my dad passed away. I was expecting my first child in August of l982. I flew home from Calgary, Alberta to be with my mom and bid my dad farewell. It was a sad time.
It is a strong reminder of how fast life goes and to always make time everyday for something you enjoy.
After cat-sitting today I am off to an auction with the retired-guy. We are just lookin' but you know me if there happens to be some pretty china. Hope I have something special to show you soon. What am I saying...of course I will. :)

Just a reminder....
Keep kitties nails trimmed and don't declaw.

hugs, Deb

  2. Hi Deb! You must have been quite young when you lost your daddy! I too, lost my daddy in 1997 and still miss him.
Now that egg cup is gorgeous. I had never seen brown transferware until I started blogging! Have fun at your auction. You may just find something! :)

  4. Hi Deb! You seem to do well at enjoying each day. I hope you have a great time at the auction! Your beautiful little cup looks like Spode to me. It makes me suddenly hungry for a soft boiled egg and hot buttered toast!

  6. Although I'm a blue girl, brown transferware sets my heart a'beating too! That little egg up is an absolute delight! It would be adorable as the star in a vignette in your little French cabinet. You know, mostly white with smallest accents of brown. Nothing to compete with this tiny treasure. Heaven!

  8. Darling! The pattern is Tonquin. It was made by Royal Staffordshire. Alfred Meakin also produced the same pattern but the egg cups are Royal Staffordshire, under the art direction of Clarice Cliff. I deal in English Transferware so I recognized it immediately. This is one of the most popular 20th century patterns...very collected! I have a red one just like yours on my desk that I keep stamps in. They are great also for toothpicks, little vases and my daughters have one filled with their bobby pins. Don't you love the brown?! That was a great find and I bet a great price!

So sorry about your Dad.. Three years or 30 years, some things hurt forever, but thank God for the good memories. Time does escape us all and I completely agree with you about taking some time to do what we enjoy.

  9. Hi Deb: True words were never spoken. On April 1 it was 11 years since my son passed away. We have to be happy of what we have right now as everything can be too suddenly taken away. I got a great laugh at that cartoon! Talk about your what-if's..Happy Thursday..Judy

  11. The power of the internet! You have the pattern name and manufacturer. I'm not familiar with many antiques, but it looks very cool.

It's very tough loosing your dad. Mine's been gone 18 years. I miss him like crazy.
