This is the book I was searching for last week. It was written in the 50's and still a favorite amongst health gurus. I've always had an interest in natural remedies and when you hit 60 (groan) I don't think you have much choice but to become more health-conscious.
The owner of our local used book shop found one copy amongst the thousands of books that line the walls in his two-story building. When I arrived to pick it up he was away from the store and his assistant found the book under the desk with my name on it. $3.00 was written on the note. "Great...did not think it would be that inexpensive." He smiled, I left and immediately ran into the owner coming in the store with a sandwich in his hand from our local bakery.
"Thanks for finding the book for me. $3.00? Are you sure that's enough? He just smiled and said
"Merry Christmas."
I was able to finish up cat-sitting before the freezing rain arrived today. Well, all but one new client to meet. Oh, it was so worth the drive. This latest cat looks just like the book cover. That will be the last now. I am full for Christmas and as it is will need my trusty and willing assistant on Christmas day.
I'm taking tomorrow to have a quiet day and honor the families that have been struck down by the tragedy in Connecticut.
Hugs, Deb
Oh yes a love of white cats is contagious! I will have to find that book and read it. Some lovely light and happy cat stories are appealing to me right now also! Hugs, Linda
ReplyDeleteI remember my Dad having Dr Jarvis's book [we are Vermonters by birth and long association]!] One could do worse than at least try the honey/vinegar treatment.
ReplyDeleteWe have two 'old lady' cats--half sister Siameses. They have knobby spines and walk a bit stiffly--such dear creatures.
We also have a cat who could stand to diet [Teasel] and the kittens who are making up for their starved childhood by eating us out of house and home.
I need to find a new book to start...something light and fun. I love going to book sales and old book stores. You can always find something interesting. Sweet hugs!
ReplyDeleteOh the joy of a good book.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a wonderful week Deb!

$3 is a Christmas gift indeed! I bet he knows you'll truly appreciate the wisdom within and is happy to pass it on to you.
ReplyDeleteMy miss Poppy went to bed at 6.30pm last night, and I had to wake her up at 7.30am this morning. She headed outside for an hour, but sleeps all day and has just an hour or two of activity in the evening, and it is summer here. What a great life!!!
ReplyDeleteCurling up with a good book sounds perfect at this time of year. Next week, I have two weeks off and am looking forward to my break and just relaxing and reading too.

What a lovely photo of two of your favourite fellows.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely one to frame.
What are the odds of finding a book so many years out of print at a near by bookseller? It was meant to be!
I believe your book was the one my gran swore by. The woman was the healthiest person I have ever known.
Annie is so cute! Looks like you got some good books to read :)
ReplyDeleteDeb, what do you feed your old guys to keep the meat on their bones? I find it so tough to keep weight on Tulip. She has hyperthyroidism and takes meds for that but she is getting thinner with each passing week....Any ideas?
ReplyDeleteThanks,
