The fruits of our labour

I've had plenty of very cute help in the garden this summer. With the dry weather and hot sun,  it takes a lot of watering and weeding to keep this garden alive.  Even with that, we are battling Japanese Beetles and Wild Morning Glory. Both are invasive and a big fat pain.
Still the fruits of our labour is abundant and we dine on our fresh produce every day.

We can barely keep up with the beans, tomatoes and zucchini this year. I have given lots away and still I fill baskets every few days. It will soon be time to make a tomato sauce for pasta that can be kept in the freezer for the winter months.

Again, we wait for a good rain-fall. We have had so little rain this summer and the ground and lawns are drying up. We have relied on soakers and sprinklers to keep the garden alive. And lots of pampering...more than I had bargained for.

Today is my oldest daughter's birthday. While driving to care for a kitty-client thoughts filled my head of this day thirty-four years ago when my life changed forever. It was one of the most wonderful days and we have been blessed to have such a caring, loving person in our lives ever since.
"Happy Birthday, Jess. We love you and wish you a fabulous year ahead. You deserve it."

hugs, Deb

  1. Happy Birthday Jess...
Your helper is a doll...don't they just love it in the garden?
My neighbour at the cottage, thought it would be nice to have the wild morning glory on our beach...she planted it just over the property line, and I don't want anything to do with it! I keep pulling it out of the stones, and now it is heading for the cement wall up to the deck and lawn!
I think I should spray it with my vinegar epsom salts dawn mixture...GEESH! Why are some people so stupid about invasive weeds????
Sorry for the rant...have a great day with your beautiful daughter...
    Cheers!
    Linda :o)

  2. I plant to put some zucchini and tomatoes in the freezer this week. We're eating them as fast as we can, but they will taste really yummy during the winter, won't they? Yum.

    Happy Birthday to your daughter!

  3. Happy Birthday to you, Jess. May God send many more blessings your way.
My mum used to make a green bean salad which she would put up each year. What a treat to add to a green salad on a winters day! And knowing there was a sweet litle garden helper ( who is getting bigger each day-goodness) who helped pick the veggies would double the treat.

  5. Happy birthday, Jess!!! We gave away so much produce and yet still had more than enough - we've been eating zucchini every day, it seems - including tonight, when I'm going to make another batch of cream of zucchini soup! It's dwindling, though....I think. Tomato season is next!
