Brave 'ol Ed

A few of my blogging friends have asked about Ed and how he is doing.
He has surprised us all and is coming along beautifully. We had placed carpets all around on the wood floors to give him traction and moved chairs and stools that were in his path to the kitchen but have been able to remove the carpets now as he is walking so much better. He did try to jump up on the furniture last week and fell again. I was so worried that he had damaged his leg more but he got right up and walked away showing no signs of damage. I hope he soon can jump again with success as he loves to be up high on things which most cats enjoy. They are little lions, you know.

He and Lily are 'together again' so that makes me feel happy for him. They always 'touch' when napping. Cutest, darn pair of cats I've ever seen.
This 2nd  photo taken today.
His biggest joy is to lie next to a blazing fire in our wood-stove. Ed is like the 'miracle kitty' in our eyes. There were times throughout his horrible leg injury that we had doubt in our hearts to keep him going and through tears we would discuss letting him go. He couldn't walk, needed to be carried to the box and held there (oh yah! that takes love, let me tell ya),  and fed beside his bed. We had to exercise him by putting a scarf under his middle and walking him around the house. But things changed the second week.We are so happy now that we gave him time to show us how brave and strong he still is at the age of 22. We love this guy dearly.

I finished my Christmas cards today. One more thing to check off  my list.

Now that I have reached middle age (ha! that's if I live to be 120) I have to wear glasses when I write them to see up close. Don't ya just love getting older ;-{ I have a pair of reading glasses in the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen & in my purse. Even with that, I am usually looking for them.
I refuse to hang them on my neck, though.  I think this is the beginning of 'getting crusty'. Might be fun!

hugs, Deb

  3. I'm so glad Ed is doing well Deb. Very good to hear.

Hey, you did pretty good if you held out on the reading glasses until 60! Wayne got his a couple years ago (age 44) and I have had progressives since then as well. Oh yes...age...if only our bodies could stay as young as our minds. Now that would be a wonderful thing!

  4. I'm so glad he's doing better. Animals are pretty amazing in their ability to heal so much faster than us.

  7. So happy to hear Ed is healing. I hope he can jump again soon with steady legs. It sounds like you have done many things to help him along, which I'm sure has tremendously helped his recovery.

With my senior cat who has very unsteady back legs, I have taken to putting sturdy objects near the places he struggles to jump onto, that way he can use them as stairs. My guess is you have already thought of this!

  8. I so love Ed! I think he is so handsome and has such beautiful eyes. When I see his precious face, I want to scoop him up and cover him with kisses. The picture of him with his lady love brings tears to my eyes. How little it takes to make him happy. And it does the heart good to know that he has the love and support of his family. Can you imagine how horrible it would have been had he not been given a chance! But you will always give that chance. Annie and her kitties, Ed, the sitee kitties you win over.
"Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is within the power
of your hand to do so". Proverbs 3:27. You live His word, Deb. May you have the best Christmas season ever!

  9. I found myself longing to see more of your home. Those stairs are just beautiful! Our Bump lived to 16 and Scratches lived to be 19. Ed is doing fantastic. Only an animal that is loved so much would linger for so long. I am convienced of that. The two of them all cuddled up in the cat bed...HOW I miss my cats.

And my you have the very best Christmas Season ever too...
    Love,
    Mona

  10. p.s. Glasses.. Well, I only wore the ones you bought at the store..and of course sometimes had them on a pretty necklace type thing for glasses..then one day my best friend convinced me that I should have my eyes checked and when I left...my first pair of glasses were ordered.
IF I had it to do over...not sure I would have done it. I think glasses for distance really do weaken the eyes further. But when you have trouble reading road signs and miss calculate the distance of the car ahead of you, especially at night...maybe! :) *sigh* Now I sort of like them and don't even take them off for pictures anymore. Sooo..you know..:)
