December days.

Our fall came in with a blast of snow and it settled for weeks. Then, just as November came to a close, our snow had all melted away.
But it is once again a winter wonderland here in Eastern Ontario, Canada.

How is everyone? I have been busy as you all are with end of summer cleanup and all the fall raking that goes along with living on a property surrounded by maple trees.

I am still feeding my many critters in the woodlot and will continue until I no longer can get back there with the deep snow.
By then the chips and squirrels will be hibernating, thank goodness.

We have an abundance of birds this year at our new feeder, the home-made log cabin.
And I am happy I put it just outside the bedroom window as the cats perch on their posts  or stand at the sliding doors and watch them for hours. Can you believe that is Cora on the right? She has doubled in size and is becoming a beautiful cat.

I am slowly getting ready for Christmas.

I have been nominated to hold Christmas Day dinner here and I am so delighted. Although...lots to do.
It will be the first Christmas in our new home and I can't wait.
We have been busy getting the loft ready for gift-opening around the tree. There is still some pine to add to the slanted ceiling but it will all get done, fingers crossed.

I am no dummy when it comes to cats and having little Cora experience her first Christmas with us has made me be very particular about what ornaments to place on our tree.
If they are woodland critters and made of wood, fabric or wool they will don the tree this year.
So far so good. She loves to lie under the tree and look up. Maybe the odd nibble happens on a branch, but all in all she is being amazingly good. I just want her to have fun.

Today, she was quite content at the kitchen sink helping grandson get the dishes done. :) =^..^=

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas.
And it is a wonder-full time of year.

I hope you are enjoying this time of year. I know it can be very hard for many people; my friend being one.
Tragically, she lost her son this year at 27 years of age. For her, Christmas will be a struggle as her grief is still so new.
I pray that she will find some peace being surrounded by her loving family and close friends. I know she and her son will be close to my heart this year.

Enjoy these busy days ahead.

hugs, Deb

  1. It is so wonderful to hear from you and yes, Cora has grown fast! I am so happy you will have your first Christmas in your new home. You have such a lovely family and I'm sure it will be a magical time for you all. I'm sure you are much help and understanding for your friend. It is good to remember that some people especially need our friendship and support at this time of the year.

May you, your family, your kitties and all your woodland friends have a wonderful holiday season!

  2. Goodness! Has'nt Cora grown..She's looking
    lovely..! :).
    Well, l have'nt met a pussy~cat who does'nt
    like trees..especially Christmas trees, takes
me back a few years to my kittens,
they played in it over night, in the morning
they were asleep under it, surrounded by
decorations, my daughter loved it, as she got
to redecorate it every day..HeHe! Bless!x

    of the week..God! How l hate's so

  3. And, it's looking a lot like Christmas there. Your little cupboard is so pretty and the tree too. I've been waiting and watching for a Christmas post! Cora really has grown. I love her big bushy tail. I also love your pretty kitchen window with the hanging plants. Love it!! I haven't had plants like that since we moved into the cabin in the woods. Poppy said there were too many trees and plants surrounding us...that we didn't need them inside too. :) I just may change that after seeing your pretty window. Merry Christmas Deb. Sure miss you all...and those sweet kitties too.

  4. Looks very Christmasy. I think you should give Cora her own dish cloth. Looking forward to our lunch and afternoon of tea and goodies. And thank you for commenting.

  5. We've had several cats over the years who, like Cora, were fascinated with the kitchen sink.
We are settling into the first winter in our new house with only a bit of tweaking left to do. Building a house is a long haul, but so satisfying when the time finally arrives to move in!

  6. We continue to have yoyo weather down east in in NS.
We have some snow, but will be getting rain this week.
Not crazy about that kind of weather.
Cora is looking lovely and it is nice to see the two cats together.
Sending lots of kind thoughts to your friend.
    Wishing you all Merry Christmas!

  7. Ah Cats & Christmas ornaments! Sending lots of happy Christmas wishes to Annie, Wilson & Cora, the three wise kitties.

Grief & loss are so particularly difficult at Christmas, thankfully your friend has family & friends to be her warming blanket as you wrap her in love.

  8. Are you moved into the big house yet? I may have missed the move, sorry. Bird TV always keeps kitties entertained! Da Boyz watch birds and squirrels like they are hawks; it amuses us humans to see their tailios swish back and forth, and their bodies hunched...

  9. When did sweet Cora get so big? She's gorgeous, Deb. I love that photo -- Wilson with her? It's so good to see you here -- I miss your regular posts and critter updates, too. And of course you know how much I love seeing your cabinet at Christmas. Smart move on the tree, although I suspect by next year it will be old hat to her! It's interesting, none of my cats have ever really bothered the tree too much (though Stimpy knocked it down once or twice!) What a delightful post! Merriest to you.

  10. The cats are a welcome sight.

It is a difficult time of year. Speaking personally, I'll be glad when Christmas is done.

  11. lovely post
sorry to hear about your friends son, so sad losing life so young
would love to see pics of the new house with the mouse house, cats must love the extra space!
have a wonderful xmas & a safe new year
    thanx for sharing

  13. Luckily there is no snow here- in Poland :D

I know this book about MOG! My daughter loves it!
And the plate for cats is adorable :D

I really love your christmas decorations :)

Oh, I'm so sorry about your friend. It's been a tough time for her. I can't even imagine the pain she feels :(
