Food is medicine.

Ahhh, winter. This chest cold that hit was relentless and wore me right down all month.
I'm one of those people that just don't catch things often so I suspect my immune system was weak due to family worries. And by 'family' I mean our cat, Annie.
So now I am working on building myself up to a healthy state again.
And I'm starting with blueberries and lots of them.

                                         Food is medicine.
                                            2 cups a day

Cora doesn't get it as her goal each day is to catch (in her mind) the squirrel that eats peanuts just outside the sliding door.
And have it served up on a sesame bun. =^..^=

So, I am kicking January to the curb but I have circled the last day to have breakfast out with friends and look forward to a new month.
One of joy, new beginnings and good health for family, friends and our beloved pets.

I do wish you all that and more.

  1. Good to read that you are on the mend!

  2. I'm sorry you're not feeling well, Deb....certainly worrying over a loved one can do that to you. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

  3. I love blueberries and they are loaded with good things for you. So well done. Yes, I'm sure Annie's illness made an impact on your health or immune system. Stress and loss does. But you're on the mend and keep at it!

  4. Blueberries will help you! I do hope you get stronger and feel better each day. Yes, I'm ready for January to be over too. I have not felt well since Christmas and now my husband has the flu. We had flu shots but they don't always work against all strains of flu.

I wish for joy and good health for you and all of your loved ones as well. And you know that includes the furry and feathered ones too!

  5. Your breakfast looks tasty. I hope that your germs retreat and you start feeling better soon.

It is hard to deal with the loss of a family member, and I hope that you know what a good mother you were to Miss Annie and her girl Audrey and how you gave them a wonderful home. It is a shame that they did not get the years with you that they deserved, but I am glad that they found you.

  6. One of joy, new beginnings and good health for family,
friends and our beloved pets.... :).
Yes! Definitely 2nd this..And hopefully over the next
decade, things will get better world wide..Amen to that!

Oh! I'm having raspberries with my flakes at the moment!
But blueberries sound good to me..! :o).

  7. ohhh my goodness, i've just caught up as i haven't been in blog-land since well before xmas
am so sorry to hear about your adorable Annie, sitting here with tears running down my cheeks xxx as you know it does get a little easier as time goes on.
am sending you well wishes for healing too; hope you keep getting better as time goes forward.
here's to better months ahead for all
    thanx for sharing

  8. I had my blueberries this morning - in a muffin! Made a batch yesterday as Bob had bought too many 'blues' on sale. I took a few muffins to my neighbors to help them stay healthy too!
Glad you are getting better dear and may February be a good month all around.

  9. Blueberries are so good for you, and those sure are big and pretty. Hope you feel better real soon. At first I thought that was Wilson looking up at the camera and it made me laugh. But it is little Cora. Just picturing a squirrel served up on a sesame bun. I agree with Poppy Q's comment. You were such a good Mother to Annie and Audrey. I wonder if any of us will get over losing those two. They were very special. So glad you have Wilson and Little Cora to help you get better. Love, Henny

  10. Get that wonderfully nourishing food into you, lass. You have had a very difficult time of it, no wonder that pesky cold found a way in. Onward and upwards, all will be well. Do you ever wear your 'sisterhood' apron, Deb? I do, every now and then, and wonder how all the others are faring.

  11. You are certainly in my thoughts is a sad time in our sure takes time...

  12. Mom and dad get their fresh blueberry fill every single Sunday morning with their pancakes.

  13. I must eat more blueberries! I am so glad your cold has gone away.

  14. Hello Deb, so sorry to have been absent in visiting for so long, every time I came to visit a Pop-Up Blocker would alert me to blocking a hacker-gadget loaded on your site, and it would kick me off...
I tried different browsers, but same problem, yet today I'm able to visit :)
So sorry to read that sweet Annie is no longer with you, she was such a beautiful girl, and lived the best of lives with you both.
Your new kitties will give you lots of companionship and love, and are very lucky kitties to be making their home with you.
I see you are feeling poorly, and as you know, I've been down the rabbit hole myself these past few weeks, I'm hoping now the warmer weather has arrived, the cold and flu season will be short.
Keeping my fingers crossed that your house will be finished this year, I can't wait to see the finished product.
    Get well soon dear friend,
