Cleaning up and meet lil Red

The sun was out all day today and helped to dry up the mud , somewhat. Walking around the property requires boots and sun-glasses these day. There is mud, there is snow. We did a bit of a clean-up at the back of the lot and had our first burn of  the season.
Here is the retired-guy pulling tangled vines with Maggie. Oh ya, he has named her. I knew the day would come.

I filled the  feeders, added  a tube-feeder filled with sunflower seeds and then planted some wildflowers in pots. The chickadees were on the tube in seconds but I doubt this will be their favorite feeder as it takes some work to get the seeds. I have them a bit spoiled.

I took a peak over the fence and my neighbour has snow-drops popping through the ground.

Now that gave me hope for Spring to start to warm up this beautiful little (muddy) lot.

And I finally got a photo of my shy little Red. He eats alongside my birds and believe me he gets his share, and then some. He is around all the time. Just look to the left.
My friend Linda at  Woke Up Got Out of Bed http://linda-keaveney.blogspot.ca/has a Red, too. Her Red is quite the scamp and Linda has a love/hate  relationship with him.
I expect this one will become a nuisance soon but how am I supposed to not fall for that face. I know...I have Sucker written all over me.

Kari asked how I liked being a guest at the Easter dinner this year. I loved it mostly because I got to spend more time with the grandittles.  They are the funniest three when they get together. :))) The meal was delicious and the lemon dessert was a hit. I could get used to this. :)

Audrey's hungry. Can you hear her at your house? *groan*

Must go,
hugs, Deb

Always a favorite...always delicious.
We had a great time with the family yesterday. It`s always chaotic with three little ones but what fun that was. Many thanks for a delicious meal hosted by my son, John and dil Brittany.

My three little loves.

Today will be a quiet day and I can use that. Someone was up waaaaay too early this morning, doing laps around the mouse-house and screaming bloody murder. She was hungry. She`s like that, ya know.
I won`t mention which one, but if she wants her lion on wheels (ahem!), she`d better give me a break today.

Òh look...we have some interest at the blue house. Fingers crossed.

I`m off to fill the feeders and hang one more for my feathered friends.

Easter sunday

Easter Sunday was a cool and sunny day. Because our dinner with the family is today, we spent a lot of time yesterday, outside, deciding what to do with all the mess left over from the construction. I cleaned up a few of the feeders. It was time to change the tin sheet over the wooden box for a wooden roof.  We just used some left-over strapping from the house building for now. It did the trick.
It was so amusing to watch the Chickadees fly in and out observing the work at their favorite feeding spot.

The chain is to lock up our trailer but it is moving to another spot tomorrow. YAH!
I think she approves.

I also added another bird house; this one on a wooden post outside the dining-area window. I'm not sure if this will be ok because of possible predators but we will first see if it is useful to a bird and then we'll keep an eye on it. This makes 4 little bird-houses in the new development. Cheap rent birdies.....come and take a tour.
I think my cat bird house will love it here after spending 25 years on our front porch at the old house.
It only housed a sparrow and her babies once but that was even a surprise.

I filled Easter baskets for the grands....1, 2, 3. :)))

I baked a lemon square dessert for Easter dinner. Lots of lemon, cream cheese and whipped cream on a cookie base. Yum!

I took a long walk up our road, which I do every day, just to collect my thoughts.

I'm feeling very thankful on this beautiful Easter Monday even if the wind is cold and bites my face.
It is Spring; the birds are singing & I have a chocolate bunny to eat. :))

Spring weather, at last.

(2014)

We are basking in the warmth of  +15C today.
The birds are gathering at the feeders and lingering for awhile. The sun feels wonderful on my face while I photograph my favorite bird; the Chickadee along with this little Nut-hatch.

Chickadee

Here's me and my big sis enjoying the fine weather today.

Ha!  She thinks she's 'all that' with her fab rubber boots.
Guess who needs to go shopping.

We sat around talking about the 'old days spent right here on this piece of land. Diane has some wonderful childhood memories, too, of her summer holidays at the farm.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend with family and friends.

"HAPPY EASTER" to all from
the Mouse-house.

(This post was written on Friday the 3rd of April. Today it is snowing.  Wahhhhhhhhh!)

An amazing Tea & lilacs

It's amazing, all-right. I'd say it's my new favorite tea blend.

It tastes even better in my Mintons china cup made in England.

The ingredients in this heavenly blend are...
Chamomile
Mint
Orange blossoms
lemon zest
lemongrass
hibiscus
& Rosehip.

Sounds good, huh?

Our first sign of Spring at the mouse-house was spotting a Robin at the feeders. The second sign came today as I was cleaning up around the property and saw lilac buds on the trees. We have a few lilac trees at the entrance to the property, right at the gate, and they are beautiful when in bloom.

Here's some photos from last year's lilacs.

I put them everywhere.

So, I'll just sit here with my new-found favorite tea and dream of lilac-time.
I'd better warn Audrey she may be wearing them around her head.

"I think not, crazy lady."

My favorite Easter table

I've always loved dressing a table for Easter.
This was my 2012 table all set for Easter
dinner.

Our little Riley was 2 years old.

Our mouse-house will be quiet this Easter as we celebrate
at our son's new home.
It will feel different after hosting Easter dinner for 30 years.
Unless you are a mouse, it would be a very tight squeeze here.
I know it will be a fun time with all the grandittles.
I'm so looking forward to it.

The winter coat is put away today.
Fingers crossed I won't have to see it for a very long time.

hugs, Deb
