Congratulations to a baker's dozen of fabulous kitties at http://katniplounge.blogspot.com/. Now I wish I had lots more toys to send you 13 fabulous cats but I am hoping that you share well. Mom Trish will have to snoopervise so they all get a turn.

Please send me your mailing address and this box of goodies will get on its' way. Thanks for participating and hope all you kitties have lots of fun with the slim-down toy. No guarantees on weight-loss but I know they'll have a good time trying. Mr. Ed says 'congrats' to you, Trish.

It is like Spring today. The cats are lounging (what's new?) and I am just back from cat-sitting while people travel. So nice to open their curtains and let the sun pour in for their stay-at-home kitties. I'm covered in white hair (you'll see why) and looking for my lint & cat-hair brush. Must add that to the cat-bag.


I wore rain-boots today to walk Kane. Imagine, the beginning of February and no need for winter boots. It was great to walk through puddles instead of trudging through snow and slush. I want Spring.
Annie and Audrey love to watch the squirrels in our back-yard either from the upstairs windows or the back of one of our couches.

They love each others' company. So sweet, they are.

Their fur looks so light in the sun. Annie's chin (acne) is clearing up nicely.

It's hard to stay awake when the sun warms your fur.

Lumina was adopted this weekend. I'll try to get the details on it. I'm so happy someone finally fell in love with her. I know how easy that is. ;-)

side-tracked

Not a drop of freezing rain, a snow-flake or a tree-bound squirrel goes un-noticed in this house.

 Annie and Audrey spend a lot of their day 'hunting'.

until Audrey get's side-tracked by mom's twitching tail and goes for it.

speaking of side-tracked, I was going by an antique shop again and in I went....

I can't help myself. I'm weak, I tell ya.

Came home with a lamp shade and two more tea-cups.

 They will look fine with my 'Grace Kelly' tea-pot and I love the shape of them. 

And I have a new favorite tea called

After the possible home for Annie and Audrey falling through, another woman was to call me on Friday and drop in to meet them. This woman was apparently looking for 2 cats to adopt together. She had no other pets and lived alone. She sounded promising. I waited all evening and never heard another thing.

I keep looking at these girls and wondering how I am going to be sure that where they go they will be kept together and their home will be a life-long, loving environment. Nothing's for sure, is it? It drives me nuts. I have had comments suggesting that I ask all my cat-sitting clients if they would like to adopt this pair of  amazing cats.

I have asked and I keep my eyes open for anyone, who I know would make a wonderful home for them. At this point, everyone I know has the number of cats they are content with and I respect that.

My 4 cats are still doing well but Ed, God love him, will be 23 in May. Cali is heading toward 19 years and Lily not far behind Cali. Sierra is going on 11. Should I just keep these two beautiful cats and plan for them to be with us for the next 20 years (God willing)?

 You just know I'm going to be one of those old ladies who croak and their poor family has to figure out what to do with the cats. But me without a cat or two or three...nonsense.  I have to really think about this. 

I best warn them now.;-)

Anyway...

The home for Annie and Audrey fell through. I can't go into any detail except to say that bringing Annie into the home would not work with their male cat and Audrey's personality did not match the child's needs.  And that's that!

I think it is high time I had a give-away. I have some really neat cat-related items that I have purchased recently that would make a great gift for your cat. One of them will delight your cat while trimming the waist-line. I have a sweet little treat dish (you knew there would be a dish, right?) and some yummy treats.Mr. Ed has something special he wants to send you, too.

He's such a big love-bug and after-all,  it is the month of LOVE.

a walk about town

The wind was cold enough to wear my faux-fur hood today. Kane and I walk about an hour a day. It's a slow walk most of the time with a lot of sniffing (Kane, not me) We walked by a familiar house that always has at least one cat in their window. Today this little one was looking down on us as we turned the corner.

This is the Mississippi River flowing under the Bridge St. bridge. This building was always a residence and a wool shop for years.

Now I believe it is empty. The pigeons & birds have found a warm spot to spend the day.

They certainly have a beautiful town to hang out in.

I received an email from our shelter and I also had a call today from a lady who would like to adopt Audrey. We have been playing phone-tag and I have yet to actually speak to her. I left her a message about her mom, Annie and their bond. She called back again with a message that she would like to talk to me about both of them. She has two cats already and would like to adopt another female but she would consider talking to me about the two of them staying together. Just typing this I am tearing up. I don't need to tell you how hard this will be for me to let them go if this is the right home. I'll be reaching in for all the strength I can muster on this one.

Using space wisely

I've been changing things up a bit in the house. Moving furniture around can be good for the soul.  You have heard of Feng Shui, right? It is a complex body of knowledge that reveals how to balance the energies of any given space to assure the health and good fortune for people inhabiting it. Feng Shui
A lot of it makes sense to me. I moved our bed so there was easy access to the window and made sure there was equal space on both sides. There has never been a TV or computer in the main bedroom. I can't sleep with any noise around so that was always a give-in. Dimmer switches are in both bedrooms to make for soft lighting. One thing that is listed to make your bedroom more balanced of positive energy is to sleep with the door closed. Well, around here the cats would drive me nuts all night with scratching and howling at the closed door so the door is always open. Personally, a bedroom is not complete without a cat or two.

We have plans to sell this old house soon and want to show each room in the best possible way. The last few months have been spent purging anything that is not useful or loved by one of us. The basement is a work in progress. 22 years of raising kids makes for a lot of STUFF stored. If the kids don't want it, out it goes. It really does feel good to lighten the load of material possessions. I recommend it highly.

Cat-tip-of-the-day=^..^=cheap toy
Take a toilet paper roll, some tissue paper or newspaper and some kitty treats.

Stuff one end of the roll with paper and then drop the treats inside. Stuff the opposite end with paper and throw this on the floor for kitty. Your cat can smell the treats inside. This is a great way to exercise your cat while she rips apart the roll to get to the treats. It works great around my house. Audrey goes ballistic with her roll and then enjoys all her efforts.
She's really enjoying all the boxes that we are going through these days.

Another in-expensive way to keep her busy. ;-)

Happy February

Happy February! A new month has rolled in and we are now in the depths of winter.

I guess to welcome in the month of  red I should show you a new thrift store purchase I made recently.
Red is a colour that is hard to find in my home but this little baby was comin' home with me. It looks pretty spiffy with all my cream and white dishes.

It's a Heron Cross Pottery (1876) piece made in England.

I'm not only a cat-sitter these days, I am also a bird-feeder. During the winter months I am always asked to keep bird-feeders filled for people who regularly feed them but will be travelling for awhile. "No problem, I'd love to." I'll be showing you some of my kitty clients and birdy clients during the cold months of February & March.

Around our home,  we are mostly seeing Blue jays, Cardinals & Chickadee's. I'm looking forward to what comes around the feeders out in the country. I won't know what they are called but I'll enjoy them, anyway.
Audrey has picked out her Valentine already. She will spend her time wiggling her way into the heart of the retired-guy.

We were out for breakfast with grand-daughter, Riley today.

Then we went Valentine sticker shopping.

Good way to start off a new month.
