No ID in her pocket so now she needs a name

I have to name this homeless calico cat. I can't keep calling her "the calico kitty" because it takes too long. She needs a temporary name so I am putting it out there to all my blogging, cat-loving friends to name her. I have a few names I like but I'd love to hear from you.  She is a little over-whelmed with the other cats and has decided she really loves to stay in HER room for now. I thought this might happen because in this home you bump into a cat every 5 minutes. She would do well I am sure as an only cat or with one other. She just needs time to BE BRAVE and meet them head on. I have left the door open and the cats can wander in. If she hisses at them (and she will) they just high-tail it..... outathere. I have raised a bunch of woos's. I have yet to meet a more affectionate little cat with humans. She is the best!

The importance of water for your cat and have a good laugh.

Adult cats need 3/4 of a cup of water daily for good health. This is especially important if your cat eats dry food only. If you have a cat that does not drink enough water then you may want to add a bit of soft food to their diet  as most moist foods is 74% water. Male cats especially need enough water to avoid getting crystals in their urine. Just like us, we need to flush out toxins daily with lots of water. If your cat will not eat soft food try adding a little bit of water to the dry and make a gravy. I suppose you could also leave your faucet running like the above owners.

When I brought in our little rescue cat last Sunday I gave her water along with her moist food right away. She went for the water first and drank more than normal. This is because all feral cats and any stray cats are always dehydrated in the winter mostly. They do not get enough water from eating snow like most people would think.They are dying of thirst and need water. Although I feed ferals there is nowhere that I can plug in a 'heated bowl' to keep the water from freezing. If you are feeding outdoor cats and could add water to their daily meals by purchasing one of those heated bowls that they carry in most pet stores you would be doing the poor cat a big favour. Our little stray has finally started to eat and drink normal amounts now.

A Valentine Tree

I think I have finally decided on a New Year's Resolution that I can stick to. "Out with the old....in with the white." Yes, I think I can do this one. I'm keeping my eyes open for white furniture and sales on white paint. :)
Little calico cat is doing so well. I have to confess I did have to sleep in the spare room last night because she was lonely but I think I will be letting her out to explore pretty soon. She will have a shock when she sees all the animals she must meet. I'll have a talk with the 'ol gals first and tell them to go easy on this young'un.

Next weekend we paint our dining-room floor. Yes, it has been needing a face-lift for a long time. We ripped up the carpet and then got so busy with other things that it has been ugly and un-painted for ever. I can't wait because then the dining-room is done. Not white......but done. No more carpets when living with pets.


On one of the coldest days in Ontario, Canada,  I am making a Valentine Tree for the dining-room. I will play around with it in the kitchen until I get it just right. I have a very special cat-sitting job and will show you some pictures soon. If you have been following my blog, you will know these two characters.

Now, back to the Valentine Tree.

I'm just playing .Remember the Christmas kitchen tree that we had some fun with. Well, maybe you would like to add some LOVE to the home this Valentine's Day.

Toasty warm kitchen/Update on kitty

It was so cold today I baked some Banana Blueberry Muffins just to keep the old house warm. I keep the furnace turned down low and find other ways to stay comfortable. I cut corners there and then spend it on the cats. :(

Sierra loves to keep me company in the kitchen. She knows it is closer to the canned salmon than anywhere else in the house.

The little Calico girl saw the doc today and here is her examination results so far:

I had her checked for a microchip....Nope. Big Surprise!!

She is NOT PREGNANT (Yah!)

She is approx. 1 year

No obvious health issues or ear-mites

She was de-wormed.

So, that's it for today. 

She is now back in her room with her dinner and happy to have that over with.

I'll keep my fingers crossed on a possible home for her. She still needs to be spayed and have all her vaccinations.

Relieved

It is one of those days where you cannot have exposed skin or it will freeze in minutes.

This little gal had a good night's sleep in our spare bed and is doing well. 

She is so thankful and licks your hand every chance she gets. 

The weather is getting harsher now so I am so relieved that I was able to get her when I did. 

I think God had a hand in that one.

Well this poem doesn't sound anything like our little rescued three coloured cat. She is affectionate & grateful. She is playful & curious. She is timid & gentle. She has a boo-boo on her nose and wears the weight of the world on her face.


She may have a restless sleep tonight as I expect she wonders where her 'friends' are and  has laid her pretty head on a pillow after a long-needed grooming and drifted off.

I left her to go and feed my cat-sitting clients and to drop some food off for the ferals. I didn't see any of them tonight. There is so much snow that they may be hunckered down early and just passed on the food to avoid tunneling back to their dens. I was both sad for them yet relieved that the calico is now safe and warm. I just wish they all had a home.

Monday I will have her checked for a chip and see if there are any health issues. I have emailed one person who I think may be interested in her if she is not 'lost' to someone who cares about her. She has been with the ferals for at least 6 weeks that I know of so if there is someone that was missing her, why have I not seen any posters or ads anywhere? Still, I'll do the right thing and at least check.

I expect Kane will guard her door until he finally gets to meet her.  He knows that something 'new' is in that room and he's so anxious to meet IT.


I have more good news today. Ming & Ling were adopted from our local shelter. I wish them a long a happy life with their new family.
