lots to smile about

Well, did you go visit Trish yet? If not, get over there and meet her wonderful group of felines and that sweet hubby of hers. I want to descend upon them someday with a big bag of cat toys and a box of chocolates. Trish, you are one generous lady :)

Marriage plans are being made.

So, looks like we have a marriage and a new grand-baby in the near future as our son and his wife are expecting a boy in September.  No wonder I can't get this goofy smile off my face.

"Ya...cut it out. You're starting to scare me."
"Yah...well, the next post is about how bad YOU are so be prepared."

Audrey..."Ah, Pfffffffffffft!"

Tea for Four & Thanks Trish

A very special box has arrived from Trish at Katnip Lounge http://katniplounge.blogspot.ca
I  posted about 2 tea-cups that I had found at a thrift-shop and Trish commented that she had the matching tea-pot and asked if I would like it. Ummmmm....YES! Really? I cannot believe how sweet this lady is. She not only lives with 13 cats, and believe me that can be quite hair-raising somedays, but she also is so generous and so thoughtful to her blogging friends. I love blogland.
Sierra was no where to be found when the box arrived so she missed out on customizing  the box to her liking once the contents were removed. She may have been snoozing on the screened-in porch because of late she has been missing 'her mailman'. He's been complaining. Snooze you lose, Sierra. When I opened the box I got another sweet surprise;  Trish added 2 more matching cups.
Really Trish, you are the best.
So "Thank you" for your sweet gift. Tea has never tasted better and I know little Riley will love seeing Nan's new tea-set.
                                              "Oh, for goodness sake."

Give all those kitties a squeeze and a hug for me. Please, everyone drop over and meet Trish and her party of 13. I get so many laughs from this blog every day. You'll meet her feline-lovin' hubby, too and you know how we love men with cats. So, go on...head on over to
http://katniplounge.blogspot.ca/

Oh, Sierra, your timing skills leave a lot to be desired.
"He's been and gone....face it!  Yes, I can see you." ;-)

Please keep in mind over the summer months how desperately our animal shelters need our donations. Your donation of money can go a long way. Canned food for kittens & puppies,  blankets,  cleaning products, newspapers for cages and toys for the animals are so very much appreciated. Also, check with your shelter to see if they take aluminum cans as some shelters collect them and turn them into cash. Thank you Ronna from http://ronnas.blogspot.ca/ for pointing that out to me. In Canada, Canadian Tire Money is also very much appreciated.

Wishing all my American followers a Happy 4th of July.

Helping your local animal shelter

This is the hardest time of year for all the animal shelters. The one I speak of often is full to over-flowing and donations are slow. Foster homes are few and adoptions in the summer are always down due to people being busier with travelling and cottaging.

Please locate your closest animal shelter and make a donation of money or food. If ours is suffering, they all are. We have one of the most caring group of people running The Lanark Animal Shelter and the shelter itself is one of the finest I have seen. We need our shelters and it is up to us to keep the doors open. They rely on donations of money and food from the areas they cover. They especially need canned cat food for the kittens.

Annie and Audrey came from this shelter.
Annie arrived with three 2 day old kittens and I brought them home to foster last September. Two of her kittens were adopted and I adopted Annie and Audrey. Without this shelter, Annie would have been left in an abandoned house to die with her kittens.

Please take a moment out of your day and think about how you can make a difference at your local animal shelter. They need us.

Chin up, Buttercup

Poor Annie.  Maybe living here isn't quite the cat's meow afterall.
I have changed the dry food treats to low calorie since she has gained quite enough since she was spayed months back. Her moist food will remain the same but we have to cut back somewhere. She's not impressed.

Wow...it's hot here.
I think back to when I had the dog biscuit business and how we would have the ovens on all day with the A/C trying to keep up. It was brutal.

I sold the business a year and a half ago and now that July is here again, I have no doubts I made the right move. Now I can give 100% of myself to the cat-sitting service which I love.

Today is my brother Joe's 78th birthday. Holy Cow! I don't have a recent pic but this one was taken 2 years ago. That's Joe on my right. Joe was my dad's son from his first marriage. A tragic car accident took his mom when he was only 2 years old.

My dad then married my mom and they had my sister, Diane and me. Diane is sitting far left. So, Joe has always been in my life but was married and moved from home while I was very young so I never really grew up with my brother. Nonetheless, it's great to be celebrating another year with him. I mailed him a card that said Joe Cool on the front. He'll love that because he thinks he is.
So, "Happy Birthday, big brother. Have a great day."

Lazy day.

The morning was spent on the screened-in deck enjoying the early breeze.

Where we are, the animals follow.
Lazy, lazy animals

It's a lazy day here.

But the Peppermint is growing
and the tomatoes
but that's it.
Everything else is asleep.

Cat-sitting is done until dinner time and it's time for a drive to Pakenham. They have the best general store/bake shop for miles and Scoop's Ice Cream shop. Of course, we'll keep Kane in the A/C as it is 28C here.

Hope you had a restful and fun holiday weekend.

My bud, Buddy & Cat tip for the Day

I feel very welcomed when I arrive at Buddy's home.

He is a grand 'ol guy. He loves to be combed and brushed. Good thing, because he sheds like mad.

I've been caring for him this week and have added a clothes brush to the cat-bag.

I went for a late walk last night and saw this gorgeous feline in the grass.

Just enjoying the summer evening breeze.

June is gone for another year. I hate that the months go by so quickly. Now the heat will rise, the humidity will be intolerable and like it or not, here come the bugs. But...the flowers are beautiful right now.
Speaking of heat, our homes will need some freshening up now and if you have cats,  you know that the litter box can get a little stinky in the hot weather. We don't want that...oh no we don't, so  I have a tip for you.

Cat tip for the Day=^..^=Keeping litter box odour under control

It's very simple. All you need to do is clean the box daily and add a teaspoon of baking soda to the box every day. Sprinkle it into the litter, stir up the litter and that's it. This will keep the odour from the box to a minimum. You will be using it daily so start stocking up on the dollar store baking soda. =^..^=

There is nothing more beautiful than a cat in the grass except for maybe flowers on a fence. It's a close race.
