I do share life with some wonderful cats

There is still much love in these two cats for each other.

Mr. Ed had a leg injury last Spring and for many months after that Lily did not go near him. He didn't seem to mind much. He needed to heal. Well, his back left leg is permanently damaged as he has lost most of the muscle back there but he still gets around and loves his food, his couch, his deck and yard and for the most part, his Lily. He never misses the litter-box and for that I am thankful.

Today I watched Ed as he groomed Lily. I often wonder what the relationship really is.
It's so intense sometimes and you will never see them apart. They seem to be inseparable. Then it changes and  they barely look at each other for weeks. They make me laugh but then I wonder if this is similar to some marriages.

We got a lot of rain yesterday. I actually had to return to one of my client's homes to shut windows as it came down in buckets. I have some beauties this week and when I can I will photograph each and every one of them for you. One guy, Optimus,  has a total of 18 toes on his two front paws.  He should have 10. Are you picturing snow-shoes? He is delightful. He is known as a polydactyl cat.
I have 2 black beauties, both long-haired, tabbies, grey & white & one that reminds me so much of my Annie.
                                                    Annie

Have I mentioned that Annie is the sweetest cat in the world? Yes, of course I have. It is soon coming up to a year since I brought her and her 3 kittens home from the shelter. She has certainly blossomed into a lovely companion and we love her dearly.

I am so happy I picked her (or did she pick me?) out of 28 cats that day to foster for the shelter. So....I don't make a great foster home because I fall in love too easily. That, I found out pretty quick. But sometimes things happen for a reason and I believe Annie and I, and her off-spring Audrey,  are meant to be together. Can't fight it and that's that!

When God created kitty cats,

He had no recipe;
He knew He wanted something sweet,
As sweet as sweet could be.

Fall dishes and a feral

Brown transfer-ware says 'Fall' to me.

I love the brown transfer-ware but I only have 2 pieces. I'll be on the hunt for more when I hit the antique shops this Fall.

It's been a busy week-end for cat-sitting.
I said "so long" to Buddy today.

I hope I get to care for him again.

I have 4 new kitties to show you soon. Oh boy, wait 'til you see them. They are gorgeous.

I'm just now back from the warehouse. When I first started  feeding feral cats at a warehouse there were maybe 8 at that time.
Some came, some went and I was able to trap one that I felt was not feral and find a home for her.
The last few months I have seen only 2 cats. It breaks my heart wondering where the others are. One is an older male that has been around the block and I call him Jack. He shows up for me to actually see him twice a week or so. He obviously eats somewhere else or is a fine hunter. Little Peek, named because she/he would wait in the grass and peek at me from a distance until I had placed the food and then was safely back in my car, comes for food every night. She/he may not be much of a hunter (not all cats are) and is now depending on the free grub. She/he is feral but I am seeing some progress in her/his trust of me.
This is taken from my car with a zoom.
Tonight I made more progress. The cat came closer and actually started to eat with me standing just 10 feet from him/her. I talk and the cat never takes his/her eyes off me; even while she eats.
I have been feeding this particular cat for about a year now. I don't know what has happened to the clowder of cats that were at this sight years back but I expect they have moved on or died. It's a very tough life for a feral and I worry about this one so much.

Thankfully, my daughter is finally over the flu. It was hard to see her so sick. This one lasts over a week and I'm hoping we have seen the tail end of it.

A big hug for Hilary

It's odd how we can think about, and worry about, someone we have never met. I met Hilary only through blogging and she has recently had to undergo brain surgery. I found her by a comment she made on another blog. I was so impressed with her 'out-look' on a subject that I went right over and learned more about this very interesting woman. Now I am a big fan of Crazy as a Loom.
I am wishing her well and hope that she is home soon and resting. I have thought of her so often this week and wished I was closer just so I could drop off some flowers to her and maybe take care of her cats while she recovers. You know I'm good at that.  I would bring her chocolate, too. But, distance keeps that from happening so I am sending my love and big hugs for you, Hilary right now, today. Heal up girl and rest, rest, rest. We all miss you.

I know she enjoys my 'cats in windows' so I have a few taken this morning.

You know I love those white cats. This is my kitty-client, Buddy.
and those troublesome tabbies. You know all about them, Hilary.

and look at this guy.

Do you think maybe this is the cats' favorite window to sit in?

Looks a bit dopey, eh!  I'd say he's been around the block with that mangled ear. I wonder how often they have to change the blinds.  :)

Hope you are feeling better than this cat looks, Hilary. Can't wait to hear from you.

Waiting on the Colours of Fall

Once I turn the calendar to September I am totally immersed in all that is Fall.

My favorite colours have always been the Autumn colours; gold, apricot, cream, yellow, brown, green...

I think it's because I'm a red-head. Was...is...never-mind.

Do you think I was drawn to Kane at the shelter because of his colours? Maybe.

but there might have been more.
He worships the Fall weather. He's at his best then.

Calico cats make me think of Fall
This is my grand-kitty Rae-Rae

My favorite photo with Kane was taken in the Fall

Decorating in the Fall is fun.
and I know I'll be baking more.

I use my mother-in-laws recipe
for this pie.
"Oh my"
which means more walks needed.
oh, Kane will love that.

a darling cat

Autumn is in the air
My evening walks with Kane are really enjoyable now. This summer has been too hot for him and he so appreciated the evening breeze and the cooler air. We walk on a street by the Mississippi River and every night the Canada Geese fly over our heads as they practice for the long trip south.

Sierra spends the early evening on her porch bench and then joins the rest of us once the sun has disappeared.
She is 10 years old now and has always been an easy cat; one that never asked for anything and appreciated all that was given to her. She is a cat that will keep you warm in the winter and join you on the deck for a barbeque on the hot summer nights. She appreciates every meal she is offered and has never turned her nose up to any food. She is an indoor/outdoor cat and never leaves the area. You can pretty much bet your last dollar she will be on the front porch when you want her. She was a rescued kitten; found in a tree with no identification. She loved my daughter the moment she laid eyes on her.
                        She is a darling cat.

The flu still lives.....it's a nasty one. Thank you for all your good wishes.

Fine china and a cat/ferret, not sure.

I have a new vintage tea-cup and this time it was not made in England. You know how I love England.

This pretty little piece of art was made in Bavaria. It is such fine china.

I was about to throw this blanket into the washing machine today until I suddenly saw it move.

This gave me an idea for the cat-tip-for-the-day.
We have a 'thing' in this house where we always have to double check to see if there is a cat under anything we are about to sit on. She loves to tunnel and I am beginning to think she may have some ferret in her.
So do check before sitting if you have a burrowing maniac in your home.

Needlesstosay, the blanket still needs to be washed. Maybe tomorrow.

I'm off to check on Allie and cat-sit Buddy, Emmi & Di. Have a good day, everyone.

hugs, Deb
