The Mild Mourning Dove.

The Mourning Dove is such a peaceful-looking bird.
I love their sound as they fly from tree to feeder. Their Coo-woo-woo-woo sound is almost always uttered by the male bird. It is actually a mating call.  I hear it often as I walk around outside the mouse-house. These birds are not always easy to spot in the trees but I have at least six that come to the feeders and one in particular that stays as I approach. I would love to stroke it's head but I know better. I'ts nice that they stay around and are satisfied with the seed that is provided on these cold winter days.

Lots of snow to clean up again at our property. I put a little tin roof over one open feeder to help keep the snow off. The others are all covered. I also changed all the seed so none of it would get moldy from being wet. The sun shone but the temperature dropped over-night. What a roller-coaster ride this winter is so far.

Another week is almost over. Where does the time go?

"You could spend some with me today."
That I'll do.
Stay toasty,

  1. I am so surprised that you have mourning doves at your feeders. Ours go away for the winter. They are one of my favorite birds. I always look forward to their return in the spring.
    Good luck with the move.

  2. These photos are so gorgeous and so cold looking! Thank goodness for sunshine! I think Doves are my all time favorite birds! I just love them when they visit our backyard! Have a lovely weekend Deb!

  3. If I were a bird, I would definitely live in your yard ~ you take such good take of them!

  4. They are so sweet, aren't they? I love that first photo...gorgeous!
I need to fill my feeders today!

  5. Mourning doves have gorgeous markings. I have had a couple fall asleep in my feeders. We are having frigid temps and lots of snow too. A good day for me to bake your applesauce cookies!!

  6. Glad to see all the birdies your getting now that's awesome . Good idea to put a roof over the flat feeder helps keep the seed dryer ! Wonderful photos , yes I have had enough now of snow and cold but unfortunately we are getting snow this weekend and freezing rain right now the sun is popping out every now and then . Thanks for sharing , Have a good weekend !

  7. Mourning doves are beautiful and sweet, but sadly lacking in the IQ department...bless 'em.

  8. Yesterday's high and low temps here at my house were actually COLDER than last year! And last year was a record setter. Sheesh. Audrey, you are so cute...I'd never want to leave the house, if your sweetness was inside!

  9. I remember hearing their occasional call near the house when I was growing up. In the city we don't see them at all.

  10. Lovely Dove, Lovely snow and Lovely Little Audrey, too!
Thank you for such a nice post.

  11. I love the Doves. You make me laugh. Audrey looks like she is thinking your very words. Your posts are always interesting and sweet.
