Music of the morning..

Sometimes I wish I had my friend Sue from  http://proseccoandpolkadots.blogspot.ca/here to identify the call of the birds that is like music to the ears each morning. After coffee is poured, I open the kitchen window and am serenaded by the birds amongst the maples making their presence known. Some I know, some I don't. It is such a nice welcoming to a new day.

There is a flock of juncos that have decided to stay awhile and enjoy their free meals at the feeders. They are grey with a white chest and their tail is fan-like when they lift off. They are a nice addition to the crows, blue-jays, cardinals, downy wood-peckers, gold-finch, wrens, sparrows, starlings & chickadees.

The kitties are hoping for more sun as they miss their sun-puddles and the extra activity at the feeders.
They are spending more time this week snoopervising in the garage.

Annie spends her day watching over old Kane. She is 'little Florence Nightingale' in a cat costume.
She always has to be caring (in her mind) for an oldster, but in this case,  Kane would rather she just go and find a ball to bat. He doesn't care too much for cats. haha!

It is raining again today so I am hoping the burn ban will be lifted soon so we can continue to clean up the grounds. It is frustrating when we are here to work but our hands are tied.

hugs, Deb

  1. Hello Deb,

Your photos are lovely! Thank you so much for sharing, and warm greetings from a chilly and rainy Montreal. :)

  2. When I lived in Idaho we didn't have as many interesting birds as we do down her on the south Texas coast. Every day we are serenaded and I am loving it. They are a delight. Your cats are darling. We have several feral cats in our neighborhood and one in particular spends the nights curled up in a chair on the back porch. This makes Bentley furious, but I enjoy having her around.

    Big Texas Hugs,
    Susan and Bentley

  4. Annie is such a dear little girl. Bless her heart for caring about the older ones. Even when they are indifferent to being mothered.

  5. Kane's looking quite stoic in that first shot. Beyond the sounds of owls, woodpeckers, blue jays, crows, and mourning doves, I'm not very good with bird calls.

It's often cats who are standoffish with dogs. Annie obviously thinks otherwise.

  6. I love all your bird feeders! After I've fed the cats in the morning I take my coffee to bed and open the door to the garden to let in all the birdsong. Nothing to beat it xxx

  8. It made me smile to think that your Grandmother and all of her children would have heard those same bird songs in their mornings.

Little Annie is just the sweetest caring for her charges. I wonder if she lived at a Vet. Clinic if she wouldn't offer comfort to the animals after surgery like some cats and dogs do. I am glad she is there though with you and sunny puddles. (This is a link to one of "those" kitties: http://www.boredpanda.com/veterinary-nurse-cat-hugs-shelter-animals-radamenes-bydgoszcz-poland/)

    Have a good day, Deb,

  13. What a peaceful and lovely day in your world. Alas, the birds don't seem to be loving the food at my feeder and are somewhat scarce. Poor Lizzie -- she keeps scolding me for not bringing on the birds and I tell her I have no control! Maybe new seed!

Lovely, sweet Annie.... And I hope you aren't getting the snow we are today -- just took out the trash and saw flakes.

Thanks for popping by the Gypsy! It's good to see you back!

  14. Juncos are such happy little ground feeders. It's lovely they're at your feeder.
There is something very special about Annie. Her eyes have always told us she had a "story", The gifts she brought to the family are full of love and common sense.
