The name Daisy means 'Days' eye'
My grandmothers' fields were home to many beautiful daisies. We would pick them and place them in a glass on her kitchen table when we were visiting.
My eye would go to them the moment I entered the room. I always thought of them as a pretty flower but was informed that they were actually a weed. There was no way I was accepting that.
My grandmother told me that the daisy would pop up anywhere and she had some in her garden that were not really supposed to be there. She loved that we picked them for her and placed them with love in her kitchen, but in her mind, they were weeds. You see, a weed is a plant in your cultivated area that you don't want. My mother, on the other hand, would plant them in our garden along our fence at home and call them a flower, the 'happy' flower. I preferred that and grew to love them.
When you hold a bouquet of daisies you are holding a bouquet of contradictions.
There are thousands of species of daisies. Above is the Shasta Daisy.
Today, along with buying some cat grass to grow for the kitties
I purchased some seeds and will scatter them at our lot as soon as the weather permits.
They will always be thought of as a flower, never a weed. The 'happy' flower.

Deb,
ReplyDeleteI love your happy flowers! Enjoy creating a beautiful meadow at your new homesite. I am sure your Grandmother and Mother will be smiling as they grow.

Daisies are my favorite flower. Next is the Sunflower. I agree that they convey a happy simplicity. And there are many beautiful flowers that 'some' would call weeds.
ReplyDeleteLove daisies...so sweet and just say SUMMER!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for visiting...
Blessings,
Cindy
Your meadow will be so beautiful! I love to hear that there will be daisies again. Can you imagine Riley running toward you with a big bouquet of daisies! Too sweet to imagine!
ReplyDeleteI love daisies, but they mostly remind me of Kelly. She "hot glued" them to her cap when she graduated from college. Have a lovely week, XOXO
ReplyDeleteImagine the first time your grandkids bring a bouquet of daisies for your kitchen table! You will be the happiest of grandmas with your happy flowers.
ReplyDeleteDaisies really are happy flowers aren't they? So pretty. Love those little kitty paws. :)

I think all yards should be turned into meadow gardens of flowers! Well, maybe half the yard?
ReplyDeleteMy sister had daisies and roses in her bridal bouquet many years ago. The bridesmaid bouquets were tinted daisies.
Daisies are lovely.
ReplyDeleteAnd I see one of the kitties felt compelled to photobomb a pic with her paws. Would that be Audrey?
