Birthday breakfast and attracting birds this winter.

It was a birthday breakfast for three this morning.
My daughter Allie, her partner Jon & our son-in-law Mike.
Great reason to get together.
I baked them each a pumpkin loaf for coffee time.

The mouse-house smelled heavenly last night :)

The little ones always enjoy getting to see each other. There was lots of talk about Santa comin'.

Son-in-law Mike gets the best cards.

Grandittles Bradley & Riley and DIL Brittany.

Gramps and the wee one, Gwynn.
Breakfast topped off with a fabulous fruit flan. Yum!

"Wishing all three of you a wonderful year ahead."

Back at the mouse-house...

Simon was out again today looking for breakfast and we have our cardinals back at the feeders.
Everything is hungry and bulking up any way they can for the cold weather ahead.

I'll be adding more suet to the feeders tomorrow.

Common birds that eat suet are downy, hairy, red-bellied, and pileated woodpeckers. Chickadees, northern flickers, nuthatches, and starlings are also avid suet eaters. By adding C&S Suet to your wild bird's menu, you will also attract wrens, warblers, thrushes, brown creepers, brown thrashers, and blue jays.

No snow in the forecast this week. Will it be a green Christmas? Let's hope not.

hugs, Deb

  1. Looks like a fun Birthday celebration.
    The pumpkin loaves look yummy.
I'd like to try the suet if I can find a way of keeping it from the squirrels!
    Nancy and the kitties

  2. Lovely photos . Looks like all had a nice time . Oh those loaves look YUMMY ! Our Sparrows also like the suet's . We had a Red winged blackbird in our yard the past few days filling up I guess he didn't get the migration memo . Still the odd Robin hanging about to what with all the mild temps during the day we have been having I guess they have decided to stay on for now anyways . I hope we don't have a green Christmas it just isn't the same with out a bit of snow ! Thanks for sharing , Have a good day !

  3. Happy Birthday to all!
    A great family get together....
Great idea doing your loaves in the aluminum cleanup!
Enjoy your week....hope you are feeling better♥️
    Linda :o)

  4. Well, that sure looked like a fun gathering!
I can almost smell your bread, too! yum!
Christmas will be white! At least I hope!

  5. What a gorgeous family you have, Deb! I had suet out earlier this season and had to replace the block every single day - the squirrels and blue jays were absolutely making pigs of themselves with it!! If I can figure out a way to make it last longer I'd like to put it back out....any ideas?

  6. Beautiful family. I used to put suet out, but it attracted so many Grackles that I had to stop. They would destroy the suet, the feeder, everything in no time. I know they have to eat too, but not outside my kitchen window! Dianne

  7. Deb, your Grandittles are SO darned cute!!
Re the suet/squirrel problem, we bought some suet at a bird store that had hot pepper in. Birds have no sense of smell so it doesn't bother them, and keeps the squirrels away. (Although my hubby puts out ears of corn for his squirrels every single day. LOL) BTW, glad to hear Simon is doing well. Prayers now for Sierra...feels like you get dumped on when these things pile up, doesn't it! Nebraska ><>

  8. Looks like a great time with family! Nothing tops that!i love the way you help our feathered and small creatures too .... Bet they appreciate it!

  9. I can just imagine the taste of that baking!

  10. Three birthdays so close together? Crowded celebrations! I can almost smell the newly baked loaves. Mmmm...

  11. Oh yum! I always thought the birds must get the pick of the litter foodwise, but I can see your family is at the top of the pack!
