                     Oh hushed October morning mild,
                     Thy leaves have ripened to the Fall.

                           Tomorrow's wind, if it be wild,
                                Should waste them all.

                        The crows above the forest call;
                        Tomorrow they may form and go.

                         Oh hushed October, morning mild
                          Begin the hours of this day slow.

                        Make the day seem to us less brief;
                       Hearts not averse to being beguiled,

Beguile us in the way you know.
Release one leaf at break of day;

At noon release another leaf;
One from our trees, one far away.

Retard the sun with gentle mist;
Enchant the land with amethyst.
Slow, slow.

For the grapes sake; if they were all,
Whose leaves already are burnt with frost.

Whose clustered fruit must else be lost--
For the grapes' sake along the wall.

 By Robert Frost.

Welcome to another beautiful October.

hugs, Deb

  1. I like your cat pictures, especially the white cat by the car - Lily? Love the pretty leaves too, and the wicker pumpkin on your dining table. Happy October!

    1. No, Lily is by the wood-stove. The out-door white cat is our neighbours cat, Calaus.

  2. Beautiful and evocative poem.... I particularly love "enchant the land with amethyst", it reminds me of Thomas Hardy's 'Luminous,lavender mist' when describing an English morning.

  3. Such a beautiful poem and what better to illustrate it than the cats! The image of a cat sleeping by a fireplace is the essence of home! ~ Maureen

  4. October is my favorite month.
    Love the photos
    and the kitty jack lantern =)

  5. Love the poem and the photos. October is hard for me because it's the month Kelly was born and she would have been 40 this year. You have reminded me of all the beauty this month has to share and I am happy:-D
