Recipe and a lecture

Well, the mac and cheese dinner turned out fine so I have given you the recipe at the end of the post.
We ate half and daughter #2 dropped by and went home with the rest.
I can highlight that one.
The nice thing about mac and cheese is you can add your own touches to it. I covered it with fresh tomatoes and basil before popping it in the oven. That wasn't in the recipe.
This is my new centerpiece for the dining-room table. It looks like I went around the house blindfolded and dropped stuff in a  basket. It makes me laugh.  BUT...it's china, honey and cute napkins. What's not to love?

                        Linda McCartney's Mac & Cheese
3/4 lb. macaroni uncooked
1 egg
2 cups milk
1 tbsp. butter
21/2 cups cheddar cheese
salt and pepper
Lightly boil macaroni until 3/4 cooked
Mix the egg and milk together
Melt the butter and add it with the grated cheese to the milk mixture. Stir well
Place the cooked macaroni in a buttered casserole dish and pour the egg and cheese mixture over-top. Salt and pepper to taste and mix. Bake uncovered for 35-40 minutes at 350 degrees.

I added tomato slices and basil on top. It did add some great extra flavor.
This is a good source of protein, Vitamin A & calcium.

Next recipe...Beefless Stew
Guess who's comin' for coffee today? Natalie & Ronna are dropping by and dragging Gordon & Richard along this time. We'll have coffee here and then we are all heading out to the pub for lunch. Great way to spend a rainy Saturday.

Audrey is getting a lecture here from Aunt Lily on how to act when company arrives. Apparently, Lily was mortified at Audrey's disregard for our company of late. Does she look interested, or by that matter, impressed? Maybe this time she won't turn her tail up and stomp away like a spoiled princass.

hugs, Deb

  4. We don't think Audrey is interested in what Lily has to say. We love the "princass" remark.

  5. Mac and cheese is good comfort food.

    Audrey is entirely too incorrigible.

  6. Mac and cheese is one of those comfort foods. I adore it, but must be gluten free so I make mine with rice pasta and cannot resist adding Ketchup. Naughty but nice! Love Audrey, and Lily looks great with her. Minerva ~

  11. Thanks for sharing the recipe. I'll certainly give it a try. I share your embarrassment with a cat that is rude to strangers. Maeve was delighted that we had company today until she realized the youngest granddaughter was included. Just as the little tyke went to give her a gentle pet, Mauve flounced away showing her princASS and hurt the kid's feelings. sigh

  13. Great tea cup centerpiece! I hope Audrey won't take it upon herself to rearrange it. That will really aggravate Lily!!
Great recipe. I wonder if that cookbook is still in print.
