an early birthday stroll

It was Kane's day today. He will be 11 years old this month and with that in mind we decided to take him to Gillies Grove for a walk.
Gillies Grove is the first place we took him 10 years ago after I brought him home from the shelter. He was 11 months old and already had his spirit broken. He had been adopted as a pup from a pet store (the bill was in the file folder from the previous owners) and whatever happened, by the time he was 11 months they had thrown him into a shelter and walked away. He had not been socialized & he was fearful of many things. I saw him cowering under a table in the room where you meet the animal before taking them out to assess them and I couldn't leave him there. So home he came. I had never owned a dog and he was a mess. Ignorance is bliss, I guess. I just decided we would deal with all the issues and take baby steps.  He was a work in progress.
10 years have passed..I can't believe that.  I know what it is to love a dog now. It really was 'love at first site'.
So today we took him here and we followed him around while he sniffed every square inch.

He liked this guy...a baby beaver

He had a good time (thank goodness for shade) and then a bit of ice-cream.
Ah...we'll still celebrate his llth birthday on July 27th anyway. He is spoiled, you know. ;-)

hugs, Deb

  9. What a terrific way to spend a birthday! Gosh it is so beautiful there. While I love Saskatchewan, sometimes I wish so much that we had beautiful forests to stroll through. It looks so pretty!

Hope pup had a terrific day!

  10. He is a lucky boy to have you, and he is such a beauty. It always makes me smile to know there are so many animal lovers willing to take in the abused, neglected and unloved creatures of this world. I don't think I have ever chosen a dog in my life.. they have found me. Our latest doggie, for 6 years now, just showed up one day, in our barn ,in dreadful shape. He too, was very fearful of everything and it took years to turn him around.
Bless you for having such a kind heart!
