Peek & Charming kitty in window

I place food here and there on the rocks but cannot put down any dishes or paper. I do this on the sly and any litter would be a sure sign that someone was feeding these ferals. The truckers here don't like them and would be happy just to let them starve over the winter and be done with it.  I usually put bread down and then the soft food. That way the ferals can eat their 'dish', too. The dry food is appreciated too, and when the cats leave,  the crows finish it up.
This is Little Peek. I named the cat when I noticed it peeking through the grass waiting for me to get lost so it could come for the feast. This cat has been around for about a year now. I haven't seen the old male, Jack for weeks and most of the others I just catch a glimpse of them every once in awhile. Some I have not spotted in months. The rescues and shelter are aware of these cats but there is no trapping being done because there is no room for any of them, anywhere. All cat-related rescues are full to the top with very adoptable cats needing homes. No one wants to deal with ferals.  They would be euthanized.

I have a cat in window for you today. Do you recognize him?

It's Optimus waiting for his cat-sitter to arrive.

Look at this face. Oh, he's a charmer. "Get in here, lady. I'm feeling faint from hunger." You'd think with 18 toes in the front he would figure out how to open those cans himself.
Once in, he poses for me and looks like this.

"Geez Louise",  I'm ready to warm up his food, smother it in gravy and spoon-feed him while dangling a toy mouse in front of him just for his pleasure. I hear myself babbling on to him and hardly making a bit of sense. He has me acting like a love-struck teeni-bopper. Olivia and Vora look at each other and leave the room.  "Turn your head....don't look in those eyes."  Ahhhh....too late.

"Anything you want...you got it. Anything you need, you got it. Anything at all, you got it."

hugs, Deb

  4. It breaks my heart to hear that there are so many feral cats, but I'm glad you've found a way to take care of them. You are a Guardian and they're lucky to have you. Optimus is a beautiful cat and somehow, I think he knows it. XOXO

  5. I understand the lack of room at shelters & therefore they cannot trap & then house them but is there at least a TNR group in this area so they aren't just reproducing? Very sad. The plight of ferals & castaways breaks my heart every single day.

    1. There is no TNR group in this area. The only one to trap would be animal control and they will then have them euthanized. No room anywhere for cats that are going to require time before they may be adoptable, maybe not. Our local shelter is even sending people with adoptable cats to the shelter in Ottawa which is 45 minutes east of us. I am still looking, though.

  6. That Optimus would steal my heart also. The ferals break my heart and no where to go to be safe. Thank you again for for feeding them Deb! Hugs, Linda

  7. Ferals break my heart.... A lady from my work place and I were feding a 'wild' kitty for a while last year. She said she hasn't seen the little guy in a while, though. If I want to sleep at night, I tell myself that he is now well fed in a good home.
    Optimus would have charmed anyone.

  8. Such a shame. We have three cats shelters here and they all use traps to catch ferals, get them neutered and release them again in the same place. Great idea with the bread 'plates'.
